PHILIPPINE LAWS THAT PROTECT WOMEN
1. The Philippine Constitution
ARTICLE XIII: WOMEN
Section 14. The State shall protect working women by
providing safe and healthful working conditions,
taking into account their maternal functions, and such
facilities and opportunities that will enhance their
welfare and enable them to realize their full potential in
the service of the nation.
2. Republic Act 9208
- An Act to institute policies to eliminate trafficking in
persons especially women and children, establishing
the necessary institutional mechanisms for protection
and support of trafficked persons, providing penalties
for its violations and for other.
3. Republic Act 7192 of 1992
- An Act known as the “Women in Development and
Nation Building Act”, promotes the integration of
women as full and equal partners of men in
development and nation building.
4. Republic Act 8353
-An Act known as the “Anti-Rape Law of 1997.”
-Contains answers to commonly asked questions
about the law and rape as a public crime. Also contains
contact details of agencies and organizations that rape
victims may approach for help.
5. Republic Act 9262
-An Act Defining Violence Against Women and Their
Children, providing for protective measures for victims,
prescribing penalties therefore, and for other purposes.
Otherwise known as the “Anti-Violence Against
Women and Their Children Act of 2004”.
6. Magna Carta of Women
-is a comprehensive women’s human rights law that
seeks to eliminate discrimination against women by
recognizing, protecting, fulfilling and promoting the
rights of Filipino women, especially those in the
marginalized sectors.
Salient Features:
 increase of women in third level government
positions for a 50–50 balance
 leave benefits with full pay
 non-discrimination in the military, police, or
associated services
 equal access and discrimination elimination in
the domains of education, scholarships, and
training and portrayal of women in mass media
