Q: 1 a) What do you understand by heat balance sheet? Enumerate the importance of same. (5.0M)

b) The following observations were made during one hour test on single cylinder 4-stroke oil
engine bore = 300mm, stroke= 450mm, mass of fuel used = 8.8 kg, C.V. = 41800 kj/kg , average
speed = 200 r.p.m, Mean effective pressure = 5.8 bar, brake load = 1860N, mass of cooling water

respectively. Show that for maximum work per kg of air is to be done the intermediate
temperature is given by T2=T4=√T1T3 (6.5M)

Q: 3 a) List out the methods used for measuring friction power of an IC engine. Explain Motoring Test
method. (5M)

b) An air standard limited Pressure cycle has a compression ratio of 15 and compression begins at
0.1 mpa, 400c.The maximum pressure is limited to 6 mpa and the heat added is 1675 kj/kg
