METHODOLOGY FOR REPAIR OF POT-HOLES ON BRIDGES

Filling Pot Holes

1 Scope : This work shall include repair of Pot Holes of all types of
bituminous/concrete surface with Semi Dense Bituminous Concrete as
per MOST specification. The mix will either be produced at plant site
or at the site itself with manual method of mixing and placed at site in
the Pot Holes after trimming the Pot Hole to proper shape and depth,
side painting with tack coat and compacting the layer to the levels
specified in the drawing.

2 Materials : The materials used for the Pot Holes should be as per
the contract.

4 Coarse Aggregate
5 Fine Aggregate
6 Filler
7 Aggregate grading
All The minerals aggregates including filler shall be combined as
to confirm to the grading as per MOST specification

8 Preparation of area for Pot Hole: Each Pot Hole should be


inspected and all loose material removed. The area shall be cut either
with Jack hammer of head tools like chisels, pick axes etc. such that
the area is in the shape of a rectangle or square. The edges shall be
cut vertically up to the level where the lower layer is stable without
any loose material. The area shall be thoroughly cleaned with any
appropriate method approved by the engineer to remove all dust and
loose particles. The bottom and the sides are to be painted with hot
tack coat. The tack coat should confirm as per MOST specification

9 Environmental concern: As the mix to be used for filling is a hot
mix, which is to be prepared manually or in a movable mini plant at the
side of the road. We will take necessary action to prepare the mix at an
isolated place so that the smoke & dust will not affect the local people
as well as the traffic using the road. The construction people handing
the hot mix will be provided with hand gloves & hunter shoes.
All the waste material coming out of the damage of road cutting
as well as during preparation of mix will be cleared from the site as
soon as the repairs work complete. Any excavation done for the
purpose of heating aggregate & bitumen will be made good as soon as
the work is over.
