Life of Pi

The movie tackles about the survival of a young man in the middle of
the Pacific Ocean after being separated from his family due to the heavy
storm. While cast away, he forms an unexpected connection with a
fearsome Bengal tiger who happened to be his only companion throughout
his survival. The movie tells us that even on our hardest times; we should
never lose hope for us to be able to overcome these challenges. It also tells
us the importance of having a friend who will accompany you throughout
your journey.

The style used by the author, Yann Martel, can be described as both
casual and lyrical. Martel used little dialogue because Richard Parker does
not have the ability to speak but rather, expresses what he feels through
his actions. He also narrated the story within a story. It was shown when he
had a conversation with a person who wanted to believe in God. The tone
used by the author as shown in the movie are funny, surreal, and
ruminative. It can be seen on how Martel expresses his attitude on his
work. The mood of the movie was mainly desperation and faith. As the
story revolves on the survival of Pi, it showed that faith was the only thing
Pi can depend on. He believed in God's plan as he continuously prayed to
God to protect him and keep him safe. As the movie draws near to its end,
the mood changes to desperation. It can be seen in the part where Pi tried
to make the Japanese men believe in his story.
All in all, Life of Pi is a story of perseverance and a story of not giving
up, even in the hardest times. Pi did not give up and he kept moving.
Whether it’s the ominous waves or the hungry predator as company, Pi
never lost hope. We should remember that the darkest days are not going
to last and that the obstacles we encounter is only temporary. When we
feel like giving up because we think that we did everything within our reach
to overcome these, we must remember that there is someone watching out
for us and we are not experiencing these without a reason.
Barcelona: A Love Untold
The movie revolves around Ely and Mia who crossed each other’s
path in Barcelona and then slowly developed feelings for each
other. Barcelona: A Love Untold, does not only concentrate on romance but
also dramas that one had experienced or may encounter in the future. The
film managed to tell the story of a man and a woman finding a way to
reconnect with their families and their selves. It tackles about the
importance of family, the life of OFWs, and the significance of change in
our lives.

The style used by the author, Olivia Lamasan, can be described as

casual and informal. Lamasan focused on how the lines of the characters
can give depth to the emotion in each scene. The movie was full of heavy
lines, such as “’Wag mo akong mahalin dahil mahal kita, mahalin mo ako
dahil mahal mo ako, because that is what I deserve.”, “Mahirap magmahal
ng isang taong hindi pa tapos magmahal ng iba”, “’Kung nandito siya,
nasaan ako? Anong lugar naming mga gustong magmahal sa’yo?!”, and
many more. Despite their loneliness and confusion of each other's
situation, the tone in the characters' script was kept with humor and full of
life. Series of unfortunate events had happened but still, light and happy
tone were maintained. The mood shown in the story was melancholy. It can
be shown in the scenes of both Mia and Ely.

Overall, the message provided by the film is the importance of

forgiving yourself before forgiving others. The movie showed many
realizations and emphasized that it’s okay not to be okay. The movie also
reminds us that we are our own person. We should stop comparing
ourselves to others and not let others dictate who we were, are and are yet
to become. We have our own dreams, our own struggles, our own unique
lovable qualities, and our own story.
Unexpectedly Yours
The movie revolves around two former high school friends Patty and
Cocoy who found each other unexpectedly 30 years later, not only as
organizers of their high school reunion, but also as new
neighbors. Unexpectedly Yours is a film filled with laughs and lessons
about love that appeal to us well because of how we can all relate to at
least one of the main characters. The movie also tackles about the
importance of family and friends.

The style used by the author, Cathy Garcia-Molina, can be described

as both casual and informal. The story was in first person's point of view.
Molina gave emphasis on the lines delivered by each character. The movie
contained numerous lines full of emotions and feelings. The tone used by
the author was funny and amusing. Series of events had happened.
Frustrations and disappointments were felt in the movie but the tone was
maintained until the end. The mood shown in the story was humorous.
Despite the problems encountered, the solutions were presented in a funny
and comical manner.

All in all, Unexpectedly Yours boasts lessons about family and the
importance of embracing change. The main context of the movie was
focusing on our choice to be happy. We make our own happiness. The
movie also tells us that we should work hard to become a better version of
ourselves, for ourselves. We should stop looking for validation from others
because we will eventually lose ourselves in the process. We must not
work hard to be someone others will be proud of but for us to say that we
are proud of ourselves. We must learn to accept our mistakes and keep
moving forward. The movie made me realized that success doesn’t always
mean being the best, it’s about being happy of what you have and with
what life brings your way. It’s about learning to accept when we are less,
yet always still striving to be better.
