[Design an interactive lesson through Nearpod]

[Jing Zhou]
TOPIC SELECTION
Identify a topic that would be suitable for developing an instructional unit for the course project
and explain the key goal of this instruction. Provide a brief rationale in which you explain how
you are knowledgeable about the subject and why you find the subject interesting. Also describe
why you think the content is manageable and can be taught in about 20 minutes, and why your
topic could be categorized as an intellectual skill.
Topic: Design interactive lesson through Nearpod
Goal of Instruction: The goal of this instruction is to make teacher comfortable with using
Nearpod and be able to conduct their own interactive lesson in class.
Rationale: Nearpod is an interactive online tool that supports classroom learning. It provides a
variety sorts of activities that enhance students’ participation in class and allows teachers to
collect instant feedback from students through interactive activities. I have been using this tool
in my class for 2 years. I am familiar with all the functions of this App/website.
The goal for this training is to let teachers get familiar with this App and start developing a
simple lesson through Nearpod on their own. The website is user friendly and easy to navigate.
20 minutes of instruction is enough to learn to develop a simple Nearpod lesson.

TASK ANALYSIS
The task analysis should include a list of three to five tasks to complete a job. For each task
identify a minimum of 3 steps an expert learner (or an individual who knows how to complete
the task) would follow to learn the instructional goal for your project. Create a list of three to
five questions you might ask a subject matter expert (SME) related to the task as a follow-up to
your analysis.

Goal of Instruction:
Tasks:
1. Explore Nearpod tools
a. Conduct a short tour of the website and establish an account on the website
(registration, creating new lesson, explore existing library)
b. Identify the content and activity tab from the website and analyze the usage of each
function
c. Create a simple google slide show and upload to Nearpod
d. Add interactive elements to the slide show on Nearpod
2. Simulate launching a lesson and have students sign in with iPad
a. Identify the two modes of Nearpod lesson: Self-paced and Whole group.
b. Find the lesson from Nearpod library and launch the lesson with a Game PIN.
c. Go through each activity and collect students’ response on their iPad.
3. Analyze Post-lesson report
a. Find and download the post-lesson report on Nearpod
b. Evaluate students’ performances on each activity
c. Make conclusions about which content might need to be revisited for next class.

Questions related to the tasks for the SME:

1. What are the steps of analyzing the students’ performance data after the lesson and how to
use the information to adjust my teaching?
2. What content or assessments are more suitable for interactive activities?
3. How can I shorten the learning curve of the students who are new to this technology tool?

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES AND MEASUREMENTS

For this study, develop three objectives based on the results of your task analysis. Your project
should include one objective for three different tasks listed in your task analysis project. You
should have a total of three objectives.
Objectives
1. Learners will be able to develop a simple interactive lesson with Nearpod.
2. Learners will be able to make the Nearpod live for the students to use on their iPad.
3. Learners will be able to find the post-lesson report on Nearpod and analyze the data
Measurements/Evaluation
1. Multiple choice and quiz question
2. Draft and refine Lesson plans for an interactive Nearpod lesson
3. Analyze the download report
