TALK IT OUT
Discuss how God spoke to you in Session #1.
What did you learn? What one point stuck out to you the most?
ANOTHER LOOK
This weekend we are going to be talking about the blessings that all of us can experience in God
no matter what our story is. In our team times we are going to be talking about God’s design for
us to know and experience joy in life through His blessings, and how the enemy will try to steal
our joy. The dictionary defines blessings as “a favor or gift, often undeserved, that brings joy.”
!• List some things that are a blessing in your life:
!
Ephesians 1:3 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in
the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”
!• What do you think “spiritual blessings” mean?
!
!• What is the source of these blessings?
!
God constantly pours blessings on us that aren’t physical gifts, like joy, love, peace, comfort, and
forgiveness. These are blessings to our spirit that come through Christ. The message of the cross
as a sacrifice for our sins is the greatest blessing we could ever be given.
James 1:17 “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the
heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
It isn’t just spiritual blessings that we receive from God. But every good and perfect gift is
given to us from Him. Jeremiah 32:14 tells us that God finds joy in doing good for those that
love and follow Him.
!• Why do you think God, who controls everything, finds joy in giving us good gifts?
!
Luke 11:13 “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how
much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”
God gives us good gifts because He loves us like a father. As a good and perfect Father, God
loves to see His children find happiness in His gifts.
!• How can we respond back to God because of His blessings?
!
Deuteronomy 26:11 “Then you and the Levites and the foreigners residing among you shall
rejoice in all the good things the Lord your God has given to you and your household.”
We can respond by thanking God. We can respond by giving our life to follow Him. We can
respond by telling our friends about God’s goodness. All of these are good responses. One
great way we can respond that honors God is to rejoice in what He gives us. God wants us to
experience joy in Him. Celebrate what He has done for you!
NEXT STEP
Take time tonight and in the morning and make a list of all the ways God has blessed you in
life. Those blessings can be spiritual or physical. Thank God for His blessings in your life, and
keep the list as a reminder of why you should be joyful.
PRAYER
Pray as a group that you will be able to recognize more of God’s blessings throughout Turning
Point.
SESSION #2 TE AM TIME # 3
SAT U R DAY • 9 : 3 0 A M SAT U R DAY • 1 0 : 4 5 A M

INTRODUCTION
Take a few minutes to go around the group and discuss last night.
What was your favorite part of the last session? Do you have a cool or funny story from
yesterday?

TALK IT OUT
Discuss what you just learned from Session #2 this morning.
What did you learn? What one point stuck out to you the most?

ANOTHER LOOK
This morning in our Quiet Time, we talked about sin being a thief of joy. In our Team Times
today we are going to be talking about some of those thieves and how we can protect our joy
through the promises of God’s Word. We are tempted by our fleshly desires that promise
satisfaction. But the end result of giving in to those temptations is death not joy. Instead Jesus
offers us joy and satisfaction through a relationship with Him.
Theodore Roosevelt once said “Comparison is the thief of joy.”
"• Do you think he was right? If so why?
"
Comparing our lives to people around us will always lead TO jealousy and AWAY from joy.
Matthew 6:19-20 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin
destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.”
"• What do you think verse 19 means?
"
"• What are some things you might be jealous of right now that won’t matter next year?
"
The things of this world will not last. So if we place our joy in possessions, abilities, or
achievements then our joy will not last either.
"• What does it mean to “store up treasures in heaven?”
"
Obviously there aren’t physical things that we can put in a heavenly savings account. The lesson
here is that we should invest in things that have eternal significance. Jesus is telling us it is more
important to strive after God’s mission than it is to get the newest shoes or drive the nicest vehicle.
Matthew 28:19-20 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have
commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
"• According to these verses what is the most important thing we can be doing with our lives?
"
God wants you to live for something more than just having what everyone else in the world has.
You are called to be a part of something bigger than yourself. You are a part of the Movement to
lead people to know, love and follow Jesus.
"• How can you be a part of this Movement when you get back home?
"
TE AM TIME # 3 (CO NT. ) SESSION # 3
SAT U R DAY • 7: 3 0 P M
If the most important thing in your life is having the newest and best things, looking a certain
way, or being the most popular then the comparison trap will always leave you with jealousy
and disappointment. But joy is the result of living for something bigger than yourself!

NEXT STEP
If comparison has been stealing your joy, pray that God will change your heart and the things
you desire. God’s mission starts with one person. Think about one person that you can influence
to know, love and follow Jesus when you get back from TPW. Pray that God will use you in their
life.

PRAYER
Once everyone is done take a few minutes to pray as a group. Pray for the rest of the day and that
God would continue to speak to you as you focus on Him.

something bigger than ourselves! Tonight we are going to talk about one more thief of joy, sin.
John 4:4-10 “Now he had to go through Samaria. So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar,
near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired
as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon. When a Samaritan woman
came to draw water, Jesus said to her, ‘Will you give me a drink?’ (His disciples had gone into
the town to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to him, ‘You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan
woman. How can you ask me for a drink?’ (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) Jesus
answered her, ‘If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have
asked him and he would have given you living water.’”
Historically we know that Jewish people and Samaritan’s did not associate with one another
(verse 9). There was a lot of hatred between the two people groups, but in this story Jesus, a
Jew, goes out of his way to meet this woman from Samaria.
!• What does that teach us about Jesus?
!
Jesus does not care about your background, your history, or what the world around you thinks
about you. Jesus cares about the condition of your heart.
John 4:16-18 “He told her, ‘Go, call your husband and come back.’ ‘I have no husband,’ she replied.
Jesus said to her, ‘You are right when you say you have no husband. The fact is, you have had five
husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.’”
!• What does Jesus reveal about this woman?
!
!• Why do you think she would have had so many husbands?
!
Sin promises to fulfill the desires of our heart, but in the end it always leaves us wanting more.
James 1:14-15 “ but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire
and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown,
gives birth to death.”
We are tempted by the fleshly desires of our hearts, but when we give into those desires it results
in death not satisfaction.

Matthew 13:3-8 “Then he told them many things in parables, saying: ‘A farmer went out to sow
his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.
Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was
shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had
no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on
good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.’”
Matthew 13:19-23 “When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand
it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown
along the path. The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at
once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or
persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. The seed falling among the thorns
refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth
choke the word, making it unfruitful. But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears
the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or
thirty times what was sown.”
Read through these few verses multiple times. Read slowly. Pay attention to the details.
