PSAT/NMSQT

Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test

What is the PSAT/NMSQT?

The PSAT/NMSQT is a standardized test that provides real practice for the SAT. The test is
administered to 10th and 11th grade students as a step towards preparation for the SAT,
college and career in the future.

The test offers students the opportunity to compete for recognition and scholarships by
being automatically screened for the National Merit Scholarship Program, an
academic competition for recognition and scholarships.

Students also have an option to participate in the College Board’s Student Search
Service which makes their name and information available to colleges and scholarship
programs looking for students like them.

The PSAT/NMSQT is also an opportunity for students to practice their skills and become
acquainted with the standardized testing process before taking the official SAT or ACT
for college entrance.

What does it measure?

The PSAT/NMSQT measures what is learned in high school and what students need to
succeed in college. Content areas include reading, writing and language, and math.

When will students take the PSAT?

Wednesday, October 16th, 2019 in the dual credit lab. The test will take the entire
morning so students will miss 1st-4th periods.

How to register:
Students need to let Mrs. Popham know you wish to take the test and bring the $17 fee
by Thursday, September 19th.
