I. Introduction

a. Overview of Current State of Technology

Technology has fundamentally affected the operation of

business establishments inside and the outside the county. It plays a
big role in our society – creating, making and developing solutions
to a problem. Sometimes, we define technology as “a key to the
success of the business”, it transforms manual operation into a more
systematic one.

Since technology continues to emerge and evolve, business

firms and establishments must be aware of the current trends that
technology offers. Because of wide competition companies and
other institutions are now beginning to adopt “new technologies”
that may help them to stay in the industry. In order to be the #1 in
the market, companies and other establishments are providing
quality products and services. Moreover, technology is not just
helping the business stay in the industry; technology bring out the
best qualities that they can offer the market.

Nowadays, information technology is adopted by many

academic institutions, especially in their libraries. Technology has a
great impact both for the employees and students. Technology
helps organization in producing and generating accurate reports
easily and much faster rather than using manual system. It also
lessens the time that many employees usually do in a manual library
system. Technology has also a vital role among young individuals
who are pursuing their studies; it helps them to lessen their
consumed time in studying that the manual library systems do.
Technology means being productive in an efficient and effective
manner.

b. Statement of the Problem

The general problem of the study focused on the manual

method of monitoring the library users. It had become tedious and
had caused many problems because of the increasing school
population.

The specific questions that were answered regarding the

current process of monitoring the statistical record of the library
users are as follows:

1.) What was the information needed to develop the

proposed system?

2.) How could the time-consuming process of monitoring the

library users be lessened?

3.) How could the system be able to provide reports and

import it on different document formats be developed?

4.) How could the security of the records on the database be

guaranteed?
5.) How could the errors of monitoring the library users be
lessened or eliminated?

c. Research Objectives

The study aimed to develop a computerized user monitoring

and report system for the library of Bernardo College Las Pinas.
Specially, this study attempted to:

1.) Identify the information needed for developing the system;

2.) Create a system that will lessen the time-consuming

process of monitoring the library users;

3.) Develop a system that will be able to generate

customized reports;

4.) Guarantee the security of the records on the database of

the proposed system; and

5.) Lessen, if not eliminate, the errors of monitoring the library

users.
d. Research Framework

This research adopted a relevant theory that served as the

scientific anchor or support in conducting the study.

e. Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study focused on the services given by the library to its

clienteles such as book loaning transaction (borrowing and
returning of books) and searching. Policies and procedures of the
library were included in the study. The study focused generally on
the current set-up of the library as to people, process and
technology. The researchers focused mainly on the college library.

All studies have boundaries. And true enough, the researcher

set some limitations with this research.

 the study does not cover other transaction like

acquisition (buying and acquiring new books);
 the study does not cover online book reservations;
 the study does not cover the security of personal
belongings of the client;
 the elementary and high school libraries are not
included in the study.
