Eating Disorder

Occasionally, almost everyone worries about their weight and tend to think the

society will not accept you the way you are. People with eating disorder take the matter to an

extreme level. Thus, they develop abnormal eating habits that put their well-being and their

lives at risk. The work critique the eating disorder on the family of Nancy.

From a system perspective, I can address the issue of eating disorder in the family of

Nancy by directing them to a nutritionist who will help them assess and improve their intake

of nutritious food. Healthy food may be prescribed to the family that is low in cholesterol and

daily intake of exercises.

I can also replace their destructive thoughts and behaviors into a more positive mind.

Here it will involve focusing on the health of the patient and not the weight (Downs & Blow,

2013). Though that may not be enough, I can help the family go beyond the event that

triggered that disorder.

DSM-5 can be incorporated in the treatment and assessment of eating disorders by

establishing a DSM-IV-TR where V code will be the issue of focus that will require attention

and an interaction pattern in members of the relational unit (Vo, Lau & Rubinstein, 2016).

Symptoms of the patient will be assessed through a comprehensive history so as a diagnosis

of eating disorder is evaluated. Other diagnostic processes may include using screening and

primary assessment where counsellors may use diagnostic labels to get the conclusion of the

patient.

The attitude and dynamic of the family contribute highly to the eating disorder of

children in that the family is concerned more about appearance and are over protective.

Socio-cultural has an effect in that it claims thinness is linked to success. The media also

have created an unrealistic image of the perfect of a successful person thus impacting on the

development of eating disorder (Ferguson, Murioz, Garza & Galindo, 2014). Taking these

matters into considerations, I would involve counselling lessons for the family and healthy

eating so as those factors won't trouble the family again.
