In my experience as a music student, one quality separates good teachers from the exceptional
ones: the ability to spark a great passion for music within students. Since the age of 10, I have
dedicated a substantial portion of my life to the pursuit of music. Recently, that pursuit has led to
participation in several collegiate ensembles including symphonic band, orchestra, choir, and
even a few musical pits. I have also competed in several contests and competitions including the
Northern State University Concerto/Aria Competition. As an educator, I hope to ignite a similar
passion in my students.
Guiding diverse students and working as part of a team requires not only responsibility, but
accountability. Throughout my high school and college careers, I have successfully managed a
full academic load, a demanding practice schedule, and several part-time jobs. Additionally, my
coursework has led me to complete an undergraduate honors thesis that deals with the connection
between music and the themes of historically based sports movies. I am also an active member
of the Honors Club and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). Only by taking
responsibility for my life and being accountable for my actions will I graduate In Honoribus
from Northern State University with a Bachelor's in Music Education in May of 2020.
I would like the opportunity to discuss this position with you in person. Although I am located in
South Dakota, I would be delighted to meet with you at your convenience.
Sincerely,
Jennem Woolever
