online e classroom
Cyber bullying is not common nowadays as
technology advancement presents. Cyberbullying cannot happen only physical but in online also. It also present in online classroom setting. Cyberbullying can lead to vital dilemma if this won’t stop or higher authorities won’t take their action to stop this kind of activities. Cyberbullying already happened in the past but spread more even as technology present and bullies exist more as technological advancement just gave them another tool to step up the attack at the same time remain anonymous. The double-edged nature of modern technology, continuously balancing between risks and opportunities, manifests itself clearly in an emerging societal problem known as cyberbullying (Walrave & Heirman, 2011). More than 97% of youths in the United States are connected to the Internet in some way (Tokunaga, 2010). The number of children and teens who use the Internet at home is rapidly growing, with now over 66% of fourth to ninth graders able to go online from the comfort of their bedrooms. Children can engage in numerous Internet-based activities such as game playing, seeking information, and talking with friends. The constellation of benefits, however, has been recently eclipsed by numerous accounts of the Internet's undesirable social implications, which appear in both scholarly literature and popular media. A fair amount of attention has been given to Internet offenses, including cyberstalking (Seto, 2002), sexual predation (Dombrowski, Lemasney, Ahia, & Dickson, 2004, as cited in Tokunaga, 2010) Cyberbullying presents and exist because of externalizing behaviors were most predictive of cyber victim status. Increased awareness about the use of technology as a vehicle for bullying and identification of potential problems associated with cyber bullying and victimization will aid parents, educators, and psychologists in developing intervention and prevention strategies. (Williams, & Guerra). According to Calvete, et al (2010) cyberbullying was significantly associated with the use of proactive aggression, justification of violence, exposure to violence, and less perceived social support of friends. Other reasons for cyberbullying are: envy, prejudice and intolerance for disability, religion, gender, shame, pride, guilt, and anger. (Hoff & Mitchell, 2009; Jones, Manstead, & Livingstone, 2011), Parents also take their part as a parent. Parents have innate responsibility to forming their child to a good one. They should embark their child with knowledge and responsibility and poured with love and affection in order not to feel envy or any feeling that would commit them to do cyberbullying as their tool to hurt people while remain anonymous. Cyberbullying can affect persons emotion, mental and physical aspect .As technology present bullying spread more even .Due to advancement of technology many bullies exist as technology serves a tool to attack person online while they remain anonymous .This may mitigate if values thought well by the parents. Parents should take their responsibility as parents of their child. They should embark the child of what is morally wrong and right in order them to grow with responsibility and being aware of their actions. Second, schools should start to have firm platform to fights against cyberbullying in both private and public schools to mitigate the effect of bullying in students emotional, mental and physical aspect.
