My deep interest in Electrical Engineering has provided me with a scope to my life that many people

search a lifetime for but never find. TEXAS University’s Ph.D. program in Electrical Engineering is the
perfect fit for my ambition and for my future career as a university professor and professional
researcher, and it is my sincere desire to continue my studies at your honorable university.

At the beginning of my university studies I was searching for direction. I tried many different areas
including electric wireless communication system design, and I conducted a research on fading
phenomenon. Also, I designed matching tool for matching transmission line to a load for large band of
frequencies instead of using multi-quarter wavelength transformers.

After graduating from university, I went to work for General computer and electronic, one of the best
and most progressive companies in Jordan, as an engineer, I learned the latest technologies in
Geographical information and tracking units systems, personal responsibility, dedication and teamwork
were gained. But the longer I worked at General computer and electronics, the more dissatisfied I
became. I found that the work was repetitive and techniques were simply copied from others – there
was little room for innovation. I knew that I needed to find another direction where I could pursue my
own creative development, so I joined Abu Shariff institution, a big company for installation and
programming private branch exchange(PBX), where I learned about programming and installation for
different types of PBX such as Alcatel, Selta and Nec PBX types. After that, I joined one of the security
Jordanian forces as supervisor and maintenance engineer, working in different projects such as
participating in initiation of security forces network (TETRA). While working, I attended the University of
Jordan to fulfill my dream of completing my graduation studies of electrical engineering.

Recently I have completed my Master’s Degree, where I have finally found my motivating field of
interest. My major is in the Antenna theory and applications of MIMO technologies which exploit
multipath to provide higher data throughput, and simultaneous increase in range and reliability all
without consuming extra radio. I have done a tremendous amount of outside reading in the antenna
field. Furthermore, writing papers and reading books have inspired me to pursue a career in academia.

In addition to outside reading, I have also attended many conference and workshops where I have had
the chance to listen and learn from many prominent scholars that has further motivated my research
and study. For example, I attended the IEEE conference for antenna and microwave in the city of Aqaba.
All of these events have only deepened my interest in Antenna theory.

I have worked on my thesis in the field of Antenna design in particular on Ultra Wide Band frequency
Range (UWB) where Ultra wide band (UWB) is considered to be one of the most promising technologies
in short range wireless communications due to its high data rate which can provide. It was regulated by
Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) in 2002 for commercial applications to operate over huge
bandwidth equal to 7.5 GHz ranges from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz. One of the challenges faces UWB
technology is to design antenna that cover the whole frequency range. Recently, researchers have
focused their attention to Multiple Input/Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna to overcome multipath
fading and increase channel capacity. Combining between UWB and MIMO technologies becomes very
interesting subjects with more challenge in comparison with Single Input/Single Output (SISO). The main
challenge faces MIMO antenna design is the mutual coupling between antenna elements where the
performance of the MIMO antenna system depends on the isolation between antenna elements, where
I used three different isolation techniques to reduce mutual coupling on two different antennas types
including monopole antenna and slot antenna, printed on FR4-substrate with 50 ohms microstrip
feedline. Also, some bandwidth enhancement techniques are applied to maintain antenna bandwidth
including modifications on radiating patch, feeding line and ground plane. I used three Isolation
techniques which include decoupling network, dual polarization and using slot antenna.

One reason that I am very confident in my abilities is that my supervisor of my thesis in the university of
Jordan, through a rigorous screening process, was recently selected as an IEEE fellow – the highest
honor for an IEEE member. This professor has not only encouraged me but also enthusiastically
endorsed me to join your Ph.D. program.

The United States is the world leader in technology and education and where I can best apply my talents
to reach my full potential. Missouri University’s Ph.D. program is highly attractive to me because of its
reputation, diverse student body and excellent teaching faculty. Furthermore, Missouri’s laboratories in
Microwave and Antenna and Telecommunications Research fit perfectly with my research and future
career interests.

My personal attributes include great originality and creativity – I am not afraid to face challenges. I have
an indomitable willpower that helps me to overcome difficulties and an enterprising spirit that helps me
find innovative solutions to difficult problems. I am brave in facing my shortcomings and good at self-
analysis, self-correction and self-stimulation, which has helped me to become successful in the past and
will lead to me to even greater success in the future. It is my heartfelt desire that I may continue on my
path to success within your esteemed Ph.D. program.
