The Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV-

AIDS) rates in the Philippines has grown by leaps and bounds in this decade. Unwittingly, the ill
effects of the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome is now felt practically in an increasing
number of Filipinos. One colossal contributing factor to the increasing HIV-AIDS rate in the
Philippines is that of call center agents who are tight on stress, highly vulnerable to peer pressure,
dealing with the inflexible working hours and the unpredictable work environment seeking stress
relievers of all sorts including that of risky sexual behaviors.

As reported by Baguio, M.A. (2010, January 30). According to study: Call center agents
prone to HIV-AIDS)., a study conducted by the University of the Philippines Population Institute
and the Department of Health 2010 found that more call center workers have early penetrative
premarital sex and have had sex with the same sex thus increasing the risk for transmission of
HIV-AIDS. As stated by Miasco, M.B. (2017, August 3). 360 diagnosed in 5 months: Men-to-men
sex top cause of HIV cases., Doctor Van Phillip Baton, currently designated as the DOH-7 regional
program coordinator for National AIDS and STI (sexually transmitted infections) Prevention and
Control Program said that most HIV transmission are associated to sexual contact, mostly by men
who have sex with men (MSM) conducive to 141 cases; heterosexual sex which accounts for 56
cases; bisexual sex with 85 cases; and perinatal or mother to child transmission with two cases.
