Annie Leibovitz Biography K
Waterbury, Connecticut. Her father, Sam Leibovitz, was in the military and her mother,
Marilyn Leibovitz, was a dancer. Her family and her lived in the Philippines when she
got enrolled into the San Francisco Art Institute, wanting to become an artist. It was not
until taking a night class in photography that she wanted to become a photography. She is
well known for her iconic portraits she takes of celebrities. She likes to exaggerate and
dramatize her work and make it different from others. Her inspiration for her
photography were from photographers like Richard Avedon and Robert Frank. Her work
involves using bold colors and poses that will be sure to leave an impression on the
person looking at her pictures. She got noticed after taking a picture of John Lennon and
a few short years later, she became the Chief photographer for “The Rolling Stone,”
magazine. She later documented the Rolling Stones concert tour and shot multiple photos
of the guitarist, Keith Richards and of the lead singer Mick Jagger. Annie Leibovitz
produced a 60 print show that toured the United States as well as Europe. Later in that
same year, she joined the “Vanity Fair,” team and she broadened her subjects to different
kinds of celebrities. What makes Annie Leibovitz unique is that she spends days at a time
studying her subjects lives which made her portraits have a different kind of vibe to them.
