The Environment and Forestry Ministry reported on Friday that it had returned five containers of
trash to the United States after finding that the containers that were supposed to contain only
clean paper scraps also contained diapers, plastic scraps, wood, fabrics and shoes in “significant
amounts”.

"Tomorrow [Friday] we will return five containers to the US from Tanjung Perak Port [in
Surabaya, East Java]," Trash, Waste and Hazardous Waste Management Directorate General
secretary Sayid Muhadhar told The Jakarta Post on Thursday. "Although the containers were
originally from Canada, the country of departure [of the containers] was the US," he added.

“The five containers are on the Zim Dalian vessel and are ready to be transported back to the
US,” the environment ministry said in a statement on Friday.
The Trade Ministry had granted a permit for clean paper scraps to be imported in the five
containers, which belong to PT Adiprima Suraprinta. However, the environment ministry, in
coordination with the customs and excise office at Tanjung Perak Port, discovered the “impurity”
in the contents and ordered that the containers be “re-exported” to the US.

“This proves that government is committed to protecting Indonesia from unwanted garbage from
other countries,” the statement said.

Also on Friday, Batam Customs and Excise Office and Environment and Forestry Ministry
officials oversaw the unloading of 65 containers that contained plastic trash from North America
and Europe at Batu Ampar Port in Batam, Riau Islands.

They suspected that the contents included toxic waste and took samples to be examined in a lab.
The containers were later sealed.

The plastic scraps were imported by four companies that had be given permits to import waste to
supply Indonesia’s plastic recycling industry.

“The documents were all complete, but we found contents that did not match the criteria in the
permit, so we will do a lab check,” Batam Customs and Excise Office head Susila Brata told the
Post. (evi)

Now Playing KFC, Tyson to offer...

London (CNN Business)KFC is jumping on the meat-free bandwagon, launching a vegan version
of its signature crispy chicken burger in the United Kingdom.

The fast food chain is calling its first plant-based offering "The Imposter." The burger, which uses a
Quorn fillet and vegan mayo, will be sold at select restaurants for four weeks starting June 17.

Quorn is a meat substitute that gets its protein content from a fermented fungus. KFC describes the
burger as "a triumph of deception."

Even Tyson is getting in on the plant-based meat craze. But it's not what you think

KFC is the latest in a series of restaurant chains and food producers to attempt to capitalize on the
public's growing appetite for meat alternatives.
KFC are testing a vegan item known as the "Imposter Burger."

Earlier this week, Burger King announced that they were expanding distribution of their popular meat-
free burger Impossible Whopper to 100 locations in the San Francisco Bay Area.

In May, McDonald's launched a meatless burger in stores in Germany, one of its biggest international
markets.

The trend is growing more rapidly than many observers anticipated as consumers search out meat
alternatives to diversify their diets or reduce their environmental footprint.

Globally, the retail market for meat substitutes could grow from about $18.7 billion in 2018 to $23
billion in 2023, according to Euromonitor International.

One producer, Beyond Meat (BYND), which had a wildly successful IPO in May, reported last week that
its sales reached $40.2 million in the first quarter of 2019 — up 215% from the same period a year
before.

The company expects overall revenues to exceed $210 million this year, up more than 140%.

Animal right groups praised KFC for offering the vegan burger.

"We're confident it will be a huge hit with the skyrocketing numbers of vegans, vegetarians, and
flexitarians around the United Kingdom," said Dawn Carr, director of vegan corporate projects at PETA.
