These buildings lack even the basic civic amenities like water, parking and solid waste disposal. They are also closely built to each other that there’s no proper privacy and entry, exit points incase ofan emergency. Sir, just few days back there was an incident where a newly constructed illegal building collapsed, killing 13 people and injuring 20 including an infant in Mumbai. These unplanned buildings collapse due to weak foundations and the soil load which is not fit for construction however, yet authorities along with local politicians openly collude and bypass the laws. It is very important that civic authorities do not give license without a proper impact assessment of the soil and load bearing test, moreover if found illegal they should be immediately condemned and destroyed and those conniving bought to the books. I was going through the photos of our recent meet where we promised to do more for the environment specially by planting more of trees. You’llbe happy to know that the saplings we planted have started bearing flowers. Also I have removed all the weeds in front of our courtyard and have planted several saplings of hibiscus, rose and neem. Environment being such an important aspect of our lives, I have made sure that I water the plants regularly and ensure that only organic manure is used, I have also engaged a gardener who comes in once a week to help with the rearing. Also because of this initiative I have been called to several schools and institution where I am fortunate enough to spread the awareness of green cover and tree plantation. I make it a point to also help the local authorities to plant trees in their ‘Van Mahotsav program. When you come next time I shall show you more of the plants and trees that Ihave been planting and I must say It’s because of this that it’s much cooler and also serves asa natural repository for birds and insects alike.
