The Báb and Báhá’u’lláh
The message of the Bahá’í Faith is that peace can and must be
achieved in this age.
The dawn of a time unprecedented in its potential for
transformation was proclaimed by the Báb, the first of the
two Luminaries who established the Faith, in 1844 in Iran. He
gathered around Himself 18 key followers, who proceeded to
attract thousands to His Cause in all parts of the country.
But die-hard traditionalist elements in the clergy and
government reacted with alarm, leading to the Báb’s
execution by a regiment of shooters in 1850.
Very soon, the influence of the Báb’s message seemed to fade
almost to nothing, but it was revived and expanded by the
second Luminary, Báhá’u’lláh, resulting eventually in the
spread of the Bahá’í Faith throughout the world.
Today, in every country, Bahá’ís are working for peace,
together with like-minded people. Even though our era is
beset by serious conflicts, Báhá’u’lláh taught His followers to
see these as the birth-pangs of world unity. Everyone can
help in making it a reality faster.
