THE CUSTOMER
Totalmovie, a Grupo Salinas company, is Latin America’s first legal premium video
online streaming service and a world leader in OTT video entertainment. It operates in
40 countries, providing movies, regional content and television series on demand for
viewing on subscriber platforms including PCs, Blu-ray players, iPads, Android tablets,
smartphones, internet TVs and PlayStations.

THE NEED
As an innovator in the increasingly competitive internet-based entertainment
market, Totalmovie has introduced the world’s first connected linear television
service. The service allows subscribers to watch live, linear free-to-air
television as well as video-on-demand via its integrated internet-based OTT
solution.
Totalmovie recently rolled its OTT linear and on-demand services in major
emerging markets worldwide in collaboration with strategic distribution
partners. As such, they need to ensure that the viewing experience be
seamless, high-quality and glitch-free for both linear playouts and VOD
services—and faithfully replicate that experience across all markets.

THE CHALLENGE
Totalmovie is growing at a rapid pace and committed to launching its new service in
multiple markets within an extremely tight horizon. They needed experts who could
rapidly and expertly collaborate in designing and implementing a complete network
operations center (NOC) that would support signal downlinking, enable creation of linear
playouts, host the VOD services and provide round-the-clock monitoring of video quality.
Moreover, the Totalmovie NOC had to be replicable in locations around the world and
quickly, easily adapted to the requirements of Totalmovie’s local partners in each new
market.

different profiles for each asset to ensure mobile device
playback.
The NOC monitoring room has eight large screens with
multiviewers, with each including alarms set to catch any
malfunction in audio, video or captioning. The monitoring
room serves as a service desk and enables operators to
recall any signal through the video router and
troubleshoot problems from their desks. This proactive
solution will reduce the number of customer service
calls.
The UNIV team worked on an intensive 60-hour week
schedule to ensure that the NOC would be thoroughly
tested and operational well within Totalmovie’s
demanding timetable. Like all UNIV installations, the
design provides redundancy with no single point of
failure. Every device, cable, connector and console in
the NOC is labeled and installed precisely as specified in
workflow and connectivity plans.
