The project titled “Design, fabrication and testing of two row potato planter operated by power tiller” is

a final year project done for the partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Bachelor degree in
Mechanical Engineering. This report is based on the mechanism of plantation, standard planting patterns
with the related calculations on each of the components used on the machine. The main aim of the
project is efficient plantation of potatoes with less labour requirement and decrease in time of
plantation. The plant to plant distance in a row is 25cm and the row to row distance is the 60cm for the
plantation and the machine is operated by power tiller through chain and sprocket. Due to unavailability
of field for the plantation of potato seeds, machine was tested on small cemented area for the testing of
metering system and tracker and filler are tested on small land area. Machine was able to make the track
and ridge patterns obtained were as expected and was able to drop the seeds. In 22.87hrs the machine
can plant the seed in 1 hectare land area. The dimension of the buckets can be designed for different
seeds size to make the planter universal.
