Both the author of the text and the presenter of the lecture are discussing problems of

forest fire supression and its results in nature. The author states that fire supression of
forests is a good thing and that it extends lives in the forest and improves the health of
trees. The lecture opposes that from the very beginning, it would seem like that, but it has
further effects of damage causing long term effects of forest destruction.

The First point that the author highlights is that fire suppression allows maturation of trees
and they continue to grow. The lecture challanges this claim by stating that if the forest is
fire supressed, maple trees are growing too much and taking light away from young oaks,
but they need it to grow properly.

Secondly, the author writes that the fire suppression is healthy for ferns and wildflowers to
grow. But the lecture says, the more the ferns and wildflowers will be able to grow, the
more will they block the trees again to burn off some of the plants. The lecture actually
states, that it is healthy for the forest to let some wildflowers burn out and make space for
the smaller trees.

Finally the author discusses the issues with animals. That if the fire of the forest is
suppresed, animals are able to live and not burn to death. On the other hand, the lecture
says that if the forest fires aren`t suppresed, hunting of animals will be limited, but animals
won`t be eating small oak`s sapplings and they will be able to grow, because they won`t be
eaten by the animals.
