CREATION OF CONTOURS FROM DIGITAL ELEVATION MODEL

AIM: To create contours from DEM using QGIS Software.

REQUIREMENTS: Computer loaded with QGIS software, Satellite DEM image

PROCEDURE:

 Create a new project by selecting project option in the menu bar. A new viewer opens.
 Select layer option from the menu bar, click on add layer, and click on add raster
layer.
A new dialogue “Open a GDAL supported raster data source” appears.
 Under file name, select the file and click on open. The selected file displays in the
viewer.
 To do the custom coloration, right click on the image in layer panel and click on
properties. A new layer properties dialogue window appears.
 Select style menu, change render type to Singleband pseudocolor and classify the
classes.
 Select apply and click on OK, The classification with color and value will be
displayed in the layer panel.
 Select Raster option in the menu bar, click on extraction and select Contour.
 Select the input file, save the output file in specified directory and mention the
interval between contour lines.
 Enable the attribute name box and click on OK.
 The new shape file will be displayed in the viewer.
 To change the color of line feature, right click on the newly generated layer in the
layers panel and select properties.
 Select style menu, change the color and width of contour lines, select apply and click
on OK.
