Course Objective: To introduce student with the concept of planning and design of water treatment plant with
environmental constraints.
Module I Environmental Engineering hydraulic design: Design of distribution systems, Hydraulic analysis,
Distribution system components, Storage tanks, Hardy Cross method, Equivalent Pipe method, Design of water
pumping system.

Module II Design of water treatment units: screens, Grit chamber, Spray type Aerator, Mechanical Rapid Mix
Unit, Clariflocculator, Rectangular Plain Sedimentation tank, Radial Circular Settling tank, tube settlers

Module III Design of filters and Calculation of Chemical dosages: Design of Rapid gravity filter, Preparation of
Filter Sand from stock sand,computation of chemical dosages in water softening treatment process using lime soda
process.
