Reflection

Dec. 7, 1941, is a day of historical importance for America since it was a day of
unexpected chaos that led the awakening of the United States into World War II. This day
of inescapable destruction represents the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, which was
America’s naval fleet and aircraft base in Hawaii. This day signifies the horrendous
consequences of an unavoidable eruption of war, how devastating the loss of honorable
men can be, and when one country of different races can come together in a weakened
state to support, as well as fight, for their beloved country.

This state of eruption had triggered such a great impact on America. Since they
did not take Japan’s threat seriously enough, it caused a massive destruction of their
Pacific fleet. At that point, a war was inevitable, yet they didn’t want to face the facts.
Therefore, that unstoppable war has made different country today more aware of the
dangers of nuclear weapons, and also more conscious of when we should act.

Two thousand and four hundred admirable men died and some were trapped alive
on the battleship Arizona when it became submerged in a spine-tingling horror. During
this ghastly attack, two other ships were sunk, four battleships were damaged and 188
aircraft were ruined. Not only America’s military suffered, but the hardship on their families
and friends could never be even partially replaced. However, today their courage and
example still lives on through history, making their deaths heroic, becoming unforgettable.

Pearl Harbor was one of the most defining moments in United States history. With
the strategically-planned attack by the Japanese, it made everyone become conscious
that we need to stand for what we have fought so hard -- our freedom.
