A Journey Into The Life Of Prophet

Muhammad SAW
Episode 9: The Fate Of The Army Of Elephants!

Here it is, as promised: the third and final part of the story of the army of elephants. I know it
took a long time to complete the story. But this story is about a very important event in the
history of Islam. And so, it’s important that you know each and every thing that happened.

So, this is what happened next.

With the city evacuated now, Abraha and his army of elephants marched towards the Kaaba.
Evil plans were cooking up in Abraha’s mind. He planned to destroy the Kaaba with the help of
his giant elephant named Mahmood.

But will Mahmood help him in this evil plan?

The rest of the story will pique you, for sure. Here is what happened…

When Abraha’s army got close to the Kaaba, the elephant Mahmood suddenly knelt down. The
army did whatever they could to make the elephant stand up again and move towards the
Kaaba but the elephant didn’t budge. They pulled him, pelted him with stones and even hit him
with weapons but the elephant would not budge.

Surprisingly, when they turned the elephant towards their home country Yemen, he started
moving. When they turned him towards the country Syria, the elephant was still moving. But
when they turned it back towards the Kaaba, the elephant became stubbornly still.

It was clear that Mahmood was definitely not going to help Abraha in his evil plan of destroying
the Kaaba!

Abraha and his army were truly frustrated with the elephant. They tried to come up with another
plan for destroying the Kaaba – without taking help of the elephants.

But before they could come up with another evil plan, something strange happened. They saw a
large flock of birds flying towards them. These birds were small – even smaller than pigeons.
Each bird carried 3 small pebbles – two in each of its claws and one in its beak. These pebbles
were the size of a gram seed.

Flying above the army, the birds showered the pebbles down on them. And despite being so
small, those pebbles completely destroyed the powerful army of Abraha. When the birds were
gone, the mighty army looked like rubbish – worthless rubbish.

But how can such a small pebble create so much havoc? Well, that’s what we call a miracle!
Although those were just ordinary clay stones but Allah had given them so much power that
they destroyed everything they touched. The stones were so powerful that when they fell down
on someone, they tore through the body and settled deep in the ground.

And so, that’s how Allah the Almighty protected His House. Many of Abraha’s men ran away
while many were hit by pebbles and killed instantly. But do you know what happened to their
mighty king, Abraha? Did he run away or die instantly?

Well, Abraha was punished very severely because he was the one who came up with the whole
plan. While he was trying to run away, he got hit by a pebble. He got hurt but he didn’t die.
Instead, the pebble caused him a very painful disease. He caught an infection that became
worse every day. The poison spread in his whole body and his body started to rot away. His
fingers started falling off one after another. His limbs fell off too one by one.

And this is how the mighty king returned home from his expedition to Makkah. At home, his
body rotted away and he eventually died, leaving a lesson for everyone not to challenge the
Creator of the world and the Lord of the Kaaba ever again.

And that was the last time anyone has ever dared to plan to destroy the Kaaba.

Let me tell you one fascinating fact about this story. This event took place only 50 days before
the birth of our Blessed Prophet SAW. It was a miracle that Allah was showing to the people of
this world before giving birth to his Beloved Prophet SAW.

But it was not the only miracle that happened before the birth of RasoolAllah SAW. In fact,
people around the world saw a chain of miracles happening everywhere just before the birth of
RasoolAllah SAW. These miracles happened not just in Makkah but in all corners of the world.
And they gave a sign to everyone that something great is going to happen - something that
would lift up the darkness around the world for the last and final time.
So, what kind of miracles were they? What exactly happened before the birth of RasoolAllah
SAW?

Stay tuned for the next exciting part of the story.
