A) When conducting bunkering operations in marine waters, a nontank vessel shall carry a
seven-barrel spill kit for on-deck oil spills containing the following:

1. sorbents sufficient to absorb seven barrels of oil;

2. non-sparking hand scoops, shovels, and buckets;

3. portable containers suitable for holding seven barrels of recovered solid waste and seven
barrels of recovered liquid waste;

4. a minimum of 15 gallons of a deck cleaning agent;

5. appropriate protective clothing to protect personnel from inhalation hazards, eye exposure,
and skin contact;

6. non-sparking portable pumps with appropriate hoses; and

7. the equipment required in this section shall remain ready and pumps with appropriate hoses
shall be rigged for immediate use during bunkering operations.

Deniz üzerinde yakıt alım işlemi yürütülen “tanker olmayan” bir gemide güvertedeki yağ
saçıntıları için aşağıdakileri içeren yedi barel kapasiteli bir oil spill kit bulunacaktır:

1. Yedi barellik petrol ürününü emecek yeterlikte emici malzeme;

2. Kıvılcım çıkarmayacak malzemeden yapılmış el tipi kepçe, kürek ve kovalar;
3. Yedi barellik katı olarak kurtarılmış petrol atığını ve yedi barellik sıvı olarak
kurtarılmış petrol atığını alabilecek kapasitede taşınabilir kaplar;
4. Minimum 15 (56.7lt) galon güverte temizleyici;
5. Personeli solunum, göz ve deri teması tehlikelerine karşı koruyacak nitelikte koruyucu
giysi;
6. Uygun hortumuyla beraber kıvılcım çıkarmayan özellikte taşınabilir pompa;
7. Bu bölümde bahsedilen ekipman ve pompa (uygun hortumu takılı vaziyette) yakıt alım
işlemi süresince bunker stationda acil kullanıma uygun olarak bulundurulacaktır.

Unitor Oil Spill Kit
The Unitor Oil Spill Kit is a marine oil spill response measure
designed to be deployed easily and effectively, in conjunction
with each ships response plan, as required by the IMO and
OPA '90. The sorbents included in the Oil Spill Kit are
produced in a variety of forms which absorb up to 25 times
their own weight, for spill control, cleaning, maintenance,
marine and other applications. Unitor delivers the Oil Spill Kits
in three different sizes 12, 7 or 1 barrel indicating the
absorption capacity of the sorbent.

To affect final clean up, an environmentally safe chemical is

provided together with a range of personal safety and
protection equipment, disposal bags and handcleaner.

Regulation Requirements
The requirement of OPA'90 is that tankers 400 ft or greater in length which is carrying oil in bulk shall have
equipment to handle a 12 barrels (1900 litres) of deck spill. Tankers under 400 ft must be equipped to deal with 7
barrels (1100 litres), while in-land oil barges must be able to deal with at least 1 barrel.

Unitor Sorbents
Sorbents have become an important part of any vessels response plan requirement for on-deck spills. Unitor is
now offering sorbents specially developed for the oil and shipping industries.

The sorbents are economical in use and can be used several times without losing their absorbing capacity. Unitor
offers a complete range of sorbents suitable for any marine application, an ideal product line for every spill
situation. They are available in a wide variety of sizes and configurations such as pads, rolls, booms, particulates
and drumtoppers.

The Unitor Sorbents are water repellent and absorb oil as well as over 600 chemicals swiftly and efficiently. The
absorption speed is important during oil spills, when protecting the environment or controlling the spread is
critical. Unitor Sorbents may absorb from 10-25 times their own weight depending on the viscosity of the oil.

As alternatives to synthetic sorbents, which only absorb oil, Unitor can provide biodegradable as well as mineralic
sorbents which are also suitable for indoor applications such as engine rooms.

The Unitor Sorbent Kit contains sorbents with a total absorbing capacity of
approximately 7 barrels of oil. The Sorbent Kit consists of various types of
sorbents such as booms, pillows and pads for use at any oil spill location
on board a vessel. Special chemical absorbing pads are also a part of the
kit. For replenishment, all types of sorbents are available as separate
items through the Unitor worldwide network.
