National Mission for Clean Ganga

▪ The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) is the implementation wing of National Ganga Council
which was set up under the River Ganga (Rejuvenation, Protection and Management) Authorities order
2016

▪ The aim is to clean the Ganga and its tributaries in a comprehensive manner

▪ It was approved as the flagship programme by the government in June 2014 with a budget outlay of ₹20,000
crore to accomplish the twin objectives :
✓ effective abatement of pollution, conservation
✓ rejuvenation of the Ganga

▪ NMCG has a two tier management structure and comprises of Governing Council and Executive Committee

▪ Executive Committee has been authorized to accord approval for all projects up to ₹ 1000 crore

▪ RIMES provides regional early warning services and builds capacity of its Member States in the end-to-end
early warning of tsunami and hydro-meteorological hazards

▪ RIMES operates from its regional early warning center located at the campus of the Asian Institute of
Technology in Pathumthani, Thailand
