Design of Water Tank

From table 11-4: Cold Water Consumption in buildings (from Estimate Book by Max B.

Fajardo Jr.)

For Apartment-low rent: 70 gal/day/person

Assuming the number of person in the building:

6 units apartment (A): Max. of 5 persons per unit

Apartment Capacity = (6 units)(5 persons) = 30 persons

Total consumption

GPD = (70 gal/day/person) (30) = 2100 gal/day

Assuming the tank will pump per half day:

By conversion:
1m3
1m3 = 264.2 gal = 1050 gal (264.2 𝑔𝑎𝑙) = GPD = 3.97 m3

Note: The volume is the inside dimension of the Water Tank

Size of Waer Tank ( Volume ) = D2 × 0.784 × Height

Assuming that the height of the tank is 2.00 m:

Volume = D2(0.784) (Height) = 3.97 m3 = D2(0.784) (2.00m)

3.97m3 1.568m3 (𝐷)2

= = 1.59 m ≈ 1.60m = D
1.568𝑚 1.568𝑚

Dimension : Height = 2.00 m ; Diameter = 1.60 m

D = 1.6 m – 0.2(1.6m) = 1.28 ≈ 1.30 m

H = 2.00 m – 0.2(2.00 m) = 1.60 m

Dimension of the water tank: 1.60 m high and 1.30 m in diameter
