Chapter 2

METHOD

Presented in this chapter are the research design, population and

sample, research instruments, data collection and statistical tools.

Research Design

The study employed the non-experimental descriptive-survey

research design. Scates (2006) described Descriptive-survey research

presents condition, events or systems based on the variable data gathered

determining the level of variable involved as well as the existing difference

on the assessment of the respondent. Sheilds and Rangarjan (2013) further

elaborated that illustrative examination can’t be apply as the premise of a

causal relationship where one variable influence another. Such as clear

research can be said to have a low necessary for interior legitimacy. The

portrayal is utilized for frequencies, midpoint and other factual estimation.

Preceding written work and clear research are frequently the best approach

to a direct examination. This design is appropriate in determining the level

of Verbal Bullying among Senior High School Stem Students in St. John

Paul II College of Davao.

Population and Sample

In conducting the survey there were 50 respondents from STEM

students in St. John Paul II College of Davao provided by the researchers

by the use of stratified random sampling technique. Shown below is the

profile of the respondents consisting of sex and grade level with an overall

frequency of 50. In terms of sex, both male and female from grade 11 and

12 Stem students are equal to 50.0 percent with the proposed of training

design; in terms of grade level.

Research Instrument

The researcher adopted a questionnaire based on the study of Kula

(2011), the first draft was submitted to the adviser for comments and

suggestions. The panel of expert were consulted to make sure that the

questionnaire was valid and reliable. The mentioned questionnaire

determined the Verbal Bullying among Senior Highschool STEM students

which was the basis for Anti-Bullying Program with indicators: Behavior,

Physical Appearance and Self-Esteem.

Data Collection

In gathering data, the data collection that the researcher used was a

questionnaire method. A letter in asking permission to conduct a survey was

forwarded to the principal of Senior High Department in St. John Paul II

College of Davao one of the institutions in Davao City. Upon the approval

of the letter, the researcher administrated the questionnaire to the

respondents and assist them in answering the provided questionnaires at

the same time. Questionnaire method is a research instrument consisting a

series of questions for the purpose of gathering information from the

respondents.

Statistical Tool

The data were threated using the following statistical tools.

Mean. To assess the level of Verbal Bullying among Senior High

School Stem Students in St. John Paul II College of Davao in terms of

Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). To determine the significant

difference in Verbal Bullying among Senior High School Stem Students in

St. John Paul II College of Davao when respondents are analyzed by sex

and grade level.
