Course Description:
English A2 course displays basic concepts related to elementary information to
introduce oneself on a foreign language context, such as Greetings, Personal
Presentations, Usage of different grammatical topics and vocabulary, which will
eventually help students develop easily in different environments.

English A2 course belongs to field of Foreign Language education that is present in


the curriculum headlines of academic programs at UNAD. This is a methodological
course, that is theoretical and practical. It has 3 academic credits, which contain the
independent work and tutorship time, for a total of 144 hours of academic work,
divided into 106 independent study hours, 36 hours of tutorship support and
monitoring. Such hours are intended for the student to recognize and own basic
contents of the English course.

2. TRAINING PURPOSES

Purpose of course training:

To develop English communicative competences in students, so that they can, not


only understand and use daily and common expressions and simple sentences, but
also to socialize with their peers. Thus, those students will be able to interact,
interpret, analyze and elaborate using their own ideas. Describe the purpose of

Course Competences:
Interpretative competences:
• To identify essential information from an oral text with predictable or daily
topics, as long as they are clearly enunciated.
• To extract the topic from a conversation or a short text with basic vocabulary.
• To understand descriptions of places or routines, referring to specific aspects.
• To understand situations with a concrete need in order to answer.

Sociolinguistic competences
• To speak about different people, from their daily activities.
• To properly interact in situations that present a basic communicative
requirement.
• To express obligations and make comparisons.

Production Competences
• To write simple sentences in order to make short descriptions of events and
activities.
• To write sentences following time sequences.
• To use simple techniques to begin, keep and end conversations.

Digital and technological Competences


• To use technology to learning the language, having into account suggestions
and recommendations from tutors.
• To acknowledge strengths and weaknesses towards the virtual language
learning.
• To seek and recognize learning strategies according their strengths and
weaknesses, in order to enhance language learning.
• To use interaction strategies and technology to overcome weaknesses and
enhance strengths to manage the language.
• To identify expression and communication mechanisms to practice the
language

4. LEARNING STRATEGY

Description of learning strategy:


Describe the learning strategy: The A2 English course is developed under the
task-based learning strategy, where the student must study and develop some
content and from this develop a series of activities that will strengthen their
learning. The A2 English course will be developed in 6 environments, which are:
starting information, knowledge, collaborative learning, practice learning,
monitoring and evaluation, student’s management.
 Starting information: Forum News, General Forum, Presentation of the
course, Agenda, Duties and conditions for course development and how to
navigate the classroom.
 Knowledge: Contents and learning supports and glossary.
 Collaborative learning: Guides and forum recognition activities, Writing,
speaking and Creating the Blog.
 Practice learning: Guide for the development of the practical component
and tutorial of resources for the interaction.
 Monitoring and evaluation: E-portfolio, submission links, Self-
assessments, evaluative activities, Final Evaluation.
 Student’s management: Support information and General of the
university for the student.
This English course has a high practical content, since the tasks are carried out
production activities, as well as the constant review on online content of the
classroom and suggested practice pages for the development of different activities.
The evaluation of this course will be carried out as follows:

Initial evaluation: Where the student must develop an exercise of recognition of the
course with a percentage value of 5%
Intermediate evaluation: Where the student must develop tasks, writing, speaking,
in which applies the knowledge learned according to the units of the course with a
value of 70%
Final evaluation: Development of the final national assessment of the classroom with
a value of 25%

6. STRATEGIES OF ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Description of academic support strategies to apply in this course


To synchronous accompaniment to students, The English A2 tutors network
synchronously serves students within the following spaces:
1. Skype synchronous attention: Different schedules are organized to meet
the real-time concerns of students. This timeline is within the news forum,
collaborative learning environment and internal messaging.
2. Web- conferences: In the English A2 course, different meetings are
organized at different times where students can interact with their tutors using the
web- conference tool. View timeline within the collaborative learning environment
news forum and internal messaging.
3. Face-to-face attendance in the CEAD: In a real time, attendance at the
centers and/or CEAD where the tutors of the course network belong. The timeline is
within the news forum and general forum.
4. Asynchronous accompaniment to students: The English A2 tutors network
synchronously attends classrooms students within the following spaces.

Attention by internal messaging of the course: Resolution of doubts contacting


the tutor and director of the course.

Courier service network institutional mail: Follow-up on student performance


and direct contact with a tutor assigned on campus through the institutional mail
from the teacher to the student's personal mail.

General Forum Attention - forum of general questions and concerns and forum of
technical problems report: Interaction with the network of teachers of the course for
these academic spaces in order to support answers to the doubts of students
