Please carryout all the seven problems.
1. A glider having W = 2000, 5 = 8.0m, A= 16.0, = 0.95, and Cp, = 0.015 is launched
from a height of 300m. Determine the maximum range, corresponding glide angle, forward
velocity, and lift coefficient at sea level.

2. A propeller aircraft weighs 50,000. and has a wing area of 30m”, The reciprocating engine
develops 840 KW at sea level and the adjustable pitch, constant speed propeller has an efficiency
0f 0.85. The drag polar of the aircraft ia given by Cp = 0.025 + 0.05C2, and the maximum
lift coefficient is 1.75. Determine the maximum rate of climb and corresponding speed and Kft
coefficient.

3. An aircraft weighting 159,960.V is powered by a jet engine whose thrust Js independent of
light speed. The maximura rate of climb at sea level occurs at 152.5m/s. ‘The wing area is
46m, ‘The drag polar is given by Cp = 0.016 + 0.04507 and Cr,, = 1.5. Determine (2)
the sea level thrust 7» developed by the engine (b) lift coefficients (c) raacimaum and minizsum
speeds in level fight at sea level, and (d) The absolute ceiling assuming that the thrust varies
with altitude as 7 = Tyo°%

4, Consider the problem of fying an aircraft in a circular path of radius R in an inclined plane
meking an angle é with the horizontal plane. Find the fight path angle 7 at location #
‘measured anticlockwise from the horizontal diameter.

An aircraft weighting 25,000.V has a wing area of 80m? and its drag equation is Co
0.016 +0.04C}. Calculate the minimum thrust required for straight and level Bight and the cor-
sesponding true speeds at sea Jevel. Calculate also minimum power required and corresponding
‘rue airspeed.

6. On a certain day the pressure at the sea level is 101500 N/m? and the temperature is —44.4°C.
Tt has an altimeter which has no instrument errors and which is calibrated on the assumption
‘that the atmosphere fulfils the ISA specifications. The altimeter reads 5000 1m. What is the
true altitude of the aircraft above menn sea level? What would be the indicated altitude after
Innding on an aerodrome at sea level?

7. With reference to gliding tight consider the exact form of the dynamical equations. Show that
flatten glide occurs for w= ¢/fiue_. Hence prove that u ® 1—zel--. Consequently, the rela-
‘ive error involved in the epproximate solution is 0.25/E2_,, that is negligible fom engineering
point of view. Furthermore, show that the glide with the minimum sinking speed occurs for
ra (eee eas hort ive beapianed ow fy (ln).
