REVIEW OF PRESENT TENSES

A.- PRESENT SIMPLE vs. PRESENT CONTINUOUS


- Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius.  CORRECT (It’s a fact / general truth)
- The water boils. Can you turn it off?  INCORRECT (It’s happening right now) –
The water is boiling.
1.) Are the underlined verbs correct or incorrect? Correct them where necessary.
1. Look! That man tries to open the door of your car.
2. Can you hear those people? What do they talk about?
3. The moon goes round the earth in about 27 days.
4. I must go now. It gets late.
5. I usually go to work by car.
6. 'Hurry up! It's time to leave.' 'OK, I come.'
7. I hear you've got a new job. How do you get on?
8. Paul is never late. He's always getting to work on time.

B.- PRESENT PERFECT SIMPLE vs. PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS


- Look! Somebody has broken (break) that window.  Finished action,
emphasis on result (i.e. broken window)
- Where have you been? Have you been playing (you / play) tennis? 
Recent action, emphasis on duration

2.) Put the verb into the most suitable form, Present Perfect Simple (I have done)
or Present Perfect Continuous
