The Rev. Canon Kevin Nichols Elected IX Bishop
At a special convention held
on Saturday, April 28, 2018,
the Episcopal Diocese of
Bethlehem elected the Rev.
Canon Kevin D. Nichols, 56,
as its next bishop. Pending
consents from the wider
Episcopal Church, Nichols
will be ordained as bishop on
September 15, 2018, at First
Presbyterian Church, 3231 W. Tilghman Street in Allentown.
Stewardship Workshop
St. James St, George Episcopal
Church will host a Stewardship
workshop entitled “Year-round
Stewardship” on Saturday, June 9, 2018. The workshop will
run from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Lunch will follow. Look for
more information in the next newsletter.

Farewell to
Bishop Rowe
On Saturday, May 12,
the diocese is hosting
a farewell celebration
for Bishop Rowe and
his family. The celebration will begin with
Eucharist at St. Stephen's Pro-Cathedral at
2:00 pm followed by a reception at Genetti
Hotel and Conference Center at 4:00 pm There
is no charge for this event.
In lieu of gifts for Bishop Sean, the committee
is collecting donations for Grace Montessori
School, an outreach program of Grace
Episcopal Church in Allentown. Checks can
be made payable to The Episcopal Diocese of
Bethlehem with "Bishop Farewell Gift" in the
memo line and sent to the diocesan office.
Volunteers Needed
Registration is open for 10th grade through
young adults who are interested in
volunteering from June 24 – 30, at “Grace
House on the Mountain” in St. Paul,
Virginia, a ministry that serves people who
live in the coalfields of Appalachia.
Participants will meet new people, assist in
repairing homes, gain valuable skills and
help people in need. Building projects are
matched to the abilities of the group, and no
experience is necessary. The cost is $300, but
scholarships are available.

Church Financial Health
At the end of the 1st Quarter 2018, St.
James St. George Episcopal Church is
financially stable. Receipts were
$10,687.05 (including $6,775,00 from
pledges and $1,949.00 from fund raising
activities). Disbursements were $8,565.51.
The good news is that the loan taken out to
make major improvements to the church
over ten years ago has finally been paid off.
50/50 Tickets
Tickets are on sale. Wayne Evans was the winner of $89.00
last month. Contact Chris McGeachie for a ticket today.
Vestry News
The Vestry met on Monday, April 9, 2018. The vestry decided
that $100.00 is a fair charge for use of the kitchen and Caines
Hall for three hours. Members in good standing can make a
donation. There will be no smoking or alcohol. Services such as
cleaning and garbage removal will be discussed at the time of
rental. It was also decided that Sunday church service will
remain at 10:00 am this summer.
