Best Christmas

In the beginning, in a far away place, there lived a girl named Maris who wishes for only one
thing - to spend Christmas with her whole family. Her father was a domestic helper in another
country. On the other hand, her mother is a simple house wife.
Several years passed that their family haven't spent Christmas together. However, Maris still
hopes that her family could spend Christmas together one day.
One early morning, her mother called her father. Therefore, Maris was able to talk with her
dad. She said to him, "Dad, can you go home during Christmas Eve? We haven't spent
Christmas together for so long.." Her father replied with sadness in his voice, "Sorry, darling.
Dad can't go home yet.. Maybe another time."
As she heard his reply, she felt sadness. It seems they won't be spending Christmas together
again this year. During the passing nights as Christmas Eve came nearer, instead of letting the
sadness take over her, she prays and wishes that they could spend Christmas together even if
she already knew the fact that her father wouldn't be able to come.
Until one night, her mother can't bear watching the lonely figure of her daughter anymore. Her
mother then called her father asking for him to go home for Christmas for the sake of his
daughter. After the call, her father talked to his employer. Fortunately, his employer pitied him
for not spending Christmas with his family for years thus he was given permission for a leave.
Afterwards, he happily called his wife to tell the good news that he would be able to visit
home. As a result of hearing the good news, her wife then can't hide the joy and hurriedly
bought groceries to cook for Christmas Eve.
As her mother cooked, Maris watched with confusion as she saw the many dishes on the table.
Because of her curiosity, she asked her mother, "Mom, why did you cook so many dishes? The
both of us won't be able to eat all of those. They would just be wasted."
Her mom didn't reply and just smiled at her. After they finished preparing the dishes, they
suddenly heard someone knock on the door.
As they opened the door, Maris was greatly surprised. There stands her father smiling at her.
Maris felt tears fall from her eyes as her prayer came true. She embraced her father although
she have not been with him for a very long time as tears continuously fell from her eyes.
Finally, as the cold wind flew by through the night. A humble house that emits a warm light was
seen. There, inside the house, a family of three was happily spending the Christmas Eve with
warmth in their hearts.
