STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Our contemporary world would be inconceivable without computer science. From technology
to enterprise administration, medicine to biological science, social and archeological study –
every area of research today needs computer science for the evaluation of their facts and
figures. Simultaneously, the science of processing information utilizing computer programs
supplies the basis for a functional world, which is precisely what makes the subject
stimulating. This advanced development of the world with the aid of computers fascinated me
in choosing Computer Science as my field of study.
My passion for computer science consistently galvanized me and led me to pursue my
undergraduate in the field of Computer Science and Engineering in National Institute of
Technology, Bhopal, which is one of the ‘Top 20’ engineering institutes in India. The
curriculum adhered by the institute has helped me in strengthening my fundamentals and
gaining strong theoretical along with practical knowledge.
The subjects like Cyber Security, Operating systems, Computer Architecture, Machine
learning, Artificial Intelligence are in master’s curriculum of Computer Science in University
of Texas at Dallas that would provide an ample time to delve into these subjects which are a
part of my favorite subjects in under graduation. Thanks to hands-on experiences with Web
Programming, Data structures, and Android Programming, I was able to apply my theoretical
knowledge and enhance my practical skills. The elective courses on Data Warehousing and
Mining, Cloud Computing taught, widened my horizon by detailing out the data processing,
visualizing and storing techniques.
As I started acquiring knowledge in my college, I started innovating new Android apps
like Rail India for live train tracking, All Finds to get a wide range of services around
us, Art24 News to get daily news on a diverse range of topics. Later during the pre-final year
of my under graduation, My work as a Technical Intern in Appointy was challenging as they
were working on emerging technologies like Angular 2 and Node JS. I was a quick learner and
started contributing to real-time projects by providing valuable solutions.
In the final year of my under-graduation, I worked on a project “Image Hiding Steganography
using Digital Signature”, a practical implementation of the course “Cybercrime and
Information Warfare” which uses steganography phenomenon in hiding a secret image with
another host image, thereby encrypting the final host image with a digital signature. My
teammates and I are very much charged about the prospects of learning something new every
day, gathering technical insights and are very much eager for the possible outcome.
The knowledge on such aspects has given me a chance to be a part of Philips Ultrasound, an
R&D organization focusing on providing meaningful and innovative solutions to customer’s
needs. In the Department of Ultrasound, I happened to work on image processing algorithms
that helped me to realize how effective and precise the use of algorithmic techniques and the
right choice of technologies can play a vital role in providing high-quality diagnostic care.
I participated in “Ultrasound Hackathon-2019” which happened this January. Our idea was
“Augmenting AST Tests for System environment requirement failures” which helps the system
to be cautious against known failures during the Testing procedure. The ideas and atmosphere
around me have stimulated my foresight on an amalgamation of machine learning, artificial
intelligence and data mining technique’s knowledge with Ultrasound systems. By
concentrating on higher education and research in these vast areas will fulfill my vision of
blending knowledge of computer science with these diverse fields to serve society.
Additionally, it will enable me to learn and explore the extensive use of these technologies in
various domains.
Meanwhile, it also availed me in deciding my short term goal which is to be a part of the
research community to extend my knowledge and work on solutions for challenging social
problems. My ultimate goal is that I want to see myself as a future Entrepreneur down the line
in the next 7 years. I can then put to use my technical, managerial skills and domain knowledge
gained thus far in establishing my Startup providing many useful solutions to society.
By December 2019, I will complete 18 months as a Software Engineer in Philips, and I believe
a Graduate course in the U.S.A is the next logical step in my career. University of Texas at
Dallas is ranked No.1 best value public university in Texas by “Forbes list of America’s Best
Value Colleges” and has one of the top research programs in Computer Science. The
combination of such an excellent faculty, research facilities, and a competitive student
community will push me to perform to my level best and sharpen my technical skills. I was
very much intrigued by the research areas of Dr. Sriraam Natarajan, Professor of Computer
Science at University of Texas at Dallas. His research on “Health Informatics”, “Machine
Learning” and “Statistical Relational AI” is very well-aligned with my zeal to explore new
emerging technologies to provide valuable solutions to mankind. And a master's degree under
the guidance of faculty members like Dr. Sriraam Natarajan will surely help me in achieving
my goals and aspirations.
Your renowned university also presents a humongous array of clubs and associations like
‘Indian Student Association’ which promotes Indian festive culture. And I’ve also heard
about Symbiosis Musicians club where we can meet other student musicians for the purpose
of playing, learning, sharing musical knowledge, and making music. Having professionally
trained in classical music and also completed many certification courses in Carnatic music, I
would like to be a part of these where I can get a chance to express my talents and also to
improvise them by meeting other student musicians. Hence, I am assured that my study in your
department will be a fulfilling and mutually rewarding experience.
