Cloud Introduction Pack What is the Cloud? ETS® What is cloud computing in simple terms? Cloud computing is the delivery of on-demand computing services, from applications to storage and processing power, typically over the internet and on a pay-as-you-go basis . How does cloud computing work? Rather than owning their own computing infrastructure or data centers, companies can rent access to anything from applications or servers from a cloud service provider (CSP). One benefit of using cloud computing services is that companies can avoid the upfront cost and complexity of owning and maintaining their own IT infrastructure, and instead simply pay for what they use. Providers can benefit from significant economies of scale by providing the same services to a wide range of customers. Benefits of Cloud * Savings: Building and managing of hardware for applications takes time, money and resources, as there is always something which needs to be updated, replaced or repaired, and with that upkeep come equipment and employee costs * Scalability : Ability to increase or decrease the size of the infrastructure as and when required is a big advantage of Cloud first strategy. + Reduction of Human Error: Reduction in human error created by manual data management and backups. Cloud provides automated backup’s and having it available , up and running whenever required + Improved Management & Backup, Recovery: Cloud takes care of hardware failure, natural disaster, theft, computer virus, software licenses, upgrades. etc. Who are the main players? Enterprise Cloud Providers there are really only a few giant cloud providers. Leading the way is Amazon Web Services, and then the following pack of Microsoft's Azure, Google, IBM, and Alibaba.
