Wonderware. invensss RELEASE NOTES ‘Important: Read First Summary of Features and Enhancements included in DYNSIM Software 5.0 Brief summaries of the various features introduced in DYNSIM Sofiware 5.0 are provided below. Please see the user documentation (available in the product) for more details. New Installers (32-bit and 64-bit) Please see DYNSIM Software 5,0 Installation section earlier in this document. Extensive Plug Flow Reactor (PFR) Model Enhancements Compressible Reaction Pass The holdup dynamic calculations in the PFR, originally limited to incompressible calculations, have now been enhanced to compressible holdups. This leads to more realistic pressure response when vapor exists. In order to accomplish this, a Compressible Reaction Pass (CRPass) has been added to the PFR. The CRPass can be used to model both compressible and incompressible holdups. Catalyst Effect In earlier versions of DYNSIM, there was no separate energy balance for the catalyst phase. The catalyst was lumped with the wall. Also the pressure drop calculation was limited to a simple form. In DYNSIM 5.0, the catalyst phase is accounted for separately and the catalyst temperature, fluid temperature and wall temperature are modeled more rigorously. More rigorous pressure drop correlations — Ergun Correlation and Turpin & Huntington Correlation are also now available. In addition, the liquid holdup and liquid slip are modeled more rigorously (Turpin & Huntington Liquid Holdup correlation). Liquid-Filled Vessel Improvements The rigorous overfill robustness algorithm has been implemented for the Header, PFR (Compressible Reaction Pass), Pipe and Tower models. This was previously implemented for the Drum in DYNSIM 45.1. ‘This algorithm is available as “RIGOROUS” option for HOLDUPCALCTYPE parameter in the models. Since the “RIGOROUS” option is computationally intensive, this option needs to be used judiciously. A global parameter (HOLDUPCALCTYPE default value in simulation type) is available at the engine level. This can be over-written in the individual model objects. Power Model Migration (to enable modeling of IGCC - Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) As part of the exercise to migrate DYNSIM-Power models into DYNSIM, the compressor and expander models have been enhanced to support gas-turbine and steam-turbine modeling. Page 13 of 27 Avantis. Eurotherm. Foxboro. IMServ. InFusion. SimSci-Esscor. Skelta. Triconex. Wonderware. invensss RELEASE NOTES ‘Important: Read First hancement! Turbine modelin Support for different compressor performance curve bases is now available. The options are: 0 Flow basis — Volumetric and Mass © Head basis - Pressure Head, Pressure Difference, Pressure Ratio and Static Head DYNSIM 5.0 also provides the ability to specify reference conditions and scale compressor curves using those conditions, In addition, there is ‘© Support for performance curves at multiple speed and multiple IGV positions. © Surge point definition at multiple IGV positions © XY plots display in user-configured curve bases ‘0 Display surge point at operating conditions in the surge curve display on the XY Plot Expander enhancements Isentropic efficiency accounts for non-ideality in the Expander operations. Two options are provided - Constant efficiency and Built-in efficiency curve for steam turbines. Leaving losses can be modeled as Fixed Leaving Losses or using Built-in leaving losses curve A Heat Stream port is now available to connect Expander model to Metal Casing, Metal Casing Model ‘A new metal casing model has been introduced and is used to predict temperatures of metal casing and rotors in turbine. Metal casing model needs to be connected, using heat streams, to equipment for which metal wall temperature needs to be modeled. Pipe Model Enhancements Global e A global database of of Pipe description, schedule, diameter, inside diameter, thickness, roughness. conductivity, density and surrounding heat transfer and insulation properties is now available, It is accessible from all pipes across the simulations and simplifies the configuration of pipes. A default database is provided and it can also be customized by end-users. Beggs-Brill Moody two phase flow correlation is now available in the Pipe model. The Beggs-Brill Moody correlation is well recognized in the upstream industry and can be used to mode! multiphase flow more accurately (pressure drop, flow patterns, slip holdup) in DYNSIM. Elevation profiles Page 14 of 27 Avantis. Eurotherm. Foxboro. IMServ. InFusion. SimSci-Esscor. Skelta. Triconex. Wonderware. invensss RELEASE NOTES ‘Important: Read First It is now possible to specify and model long/irregular pipeline profiles (multiple pipe segments at different elevations) in one single pipe model. Kinetic energy effects for high velocity flui The energy balance equations have been modified to account for high velocity changes. Sudden temperature changes due to high velocity changes inside the pipe are accounted for more accurately, providing more accurate temperature predictions in depressuring and other high velocity systems. Correlations for heat transfer coefficients The heat transfer coefficients (previously user-specified) are more rigorously calculated based on transport properties, transient flow, pipe wall, insulation thickness, loss to ambient air, etc Robust volume balance method for Holdup Please see Liquid-Filled Vessel Improvements New Ejector Model A new Ejector model has been added to the Process Equipment library (DYNSIM engine). It uses a simplified design based on performance curves and can be used to model steam and gas ejectors. The Ejector has two inlet connections and one outlet connection. The inlet connections to the ejector are motive fluid inlet and the suction fluid inlet. Flow conductance through the motive side of the Ejector is calculated using the design parameters while the suction side flow is determined by the performance curves New Integrator Model A new Integrator model has been added to the Utilities library. It provides the ability to integrate a process variable over time. Stream Send — Stream Receive Enhancements A more robust implementation of the Stream Send — Stream Receive is now available. It is available as the “NETWORK” option in the SENSITIVITYMODE parameter. This takes the entire network into account for the calculation of the sensitivity and is much more robust than the “LOCAL” option available in earlier versions. The default is “NETWORK” for newly configured Stream Send ~ Stream Receive objects. Legacy simulations configured with “LOCAL” option will continue to use the same unless the user explicitly changes it to “NETWORK”. All other things regarding the usage and configuration of Stream Send ~ Stream Receive objects remain the same. Page 15 of 27 Avantis. Eurotherm. Foxboro. IMServ. InFusion. SimSci-Esscor. Skelta. Triconex. Wonderware. invensss RELEASE NOTES ‘Important: Read First Mass Fraction Stream Property Component mass fractions were previously available through the Stream “Special Properties” list for calculation stream by stream as the user desired. In DYNSIM 5.0 it is now possible to calculate stream Mass Fraction for all streams in the engine using the ‘Engine Configuration’ window. Specific Heat Ratio from SIM4ME Thermo The specific heat ratio can now be obtained from SIM4ME Thermo. Relief Valve, Valve, Compressor and Pipe have been updated for this. Users still have the option of specifying the specific heat ratio. Reassign Engine Capability DYNSIM 5.0 provides a user-friendly way to remap simulation engines from one hardware configuration to another hardware configuration by using hosts mapping data. It enables easier deployment / transfer of simulations across different hardware setups. Mapping of remote and local host data can be done through the Simulation Configuration dialog or through a text file (SIMSCINDSS50\Servers\system\ HostsConfig.txt). Manual Editing of Snapshots (Text-based ICs) ‘A new option is provided to save ICs in text format. The option is available under the “Tools” menu options, in the “Backtrack and IC Configuration...” dialog. The format is similar to the states.dat file Text based ICs can be managed / handled just like binary ICs via the Snapshot Summary Table. ‘The default format for ICs remains “binary”. This change applies only to DYNSIM generated ICs. ‘SimExec ICs will still be binary. Any other engine IC will stay in the form they currently are. Custom Point Description Points and parameter names in DYNSIM can be very cryptic and hard to remember what they are and why they are needed. DYNSIM 5.0 provides the ability to customize the deseription of points and indirectly of point references. Users will be able to specify and display custom descriptions for points in Trends, Point Monitor, Trainee Performance Monitoring (TPM) and Malfunctions. Default Trends for Model Objects Pre-configured default trends are now available for select model objects including the PID Controller, Heat Exchanger, Utility Exchange, Pump and Compressor. The default trends can be created / launched via the right click menu on the model object icon. The default trends are configured with commonly viewed dynamic parameters for those model objects. The default trends are editable, savable and behave just like any other trend created by existing Trend tool. Page 16 of 27 Avantis. Eurotherm. Foxboro. IMServ. InFusion. SimSci-Esscor. Skelta. They are packaged as a separate install and can be installed on a 64-bit hardware machines, The SimExecutive and other components will continue to use the 32-bit architecture. When installed, the 64-bit engines show up as options (just like the 32-bit DYNSIM engines) in the Engine Type selection drop-down list in the Engine Configuration dialog. Or ad ak 5) FoRTPRACTE dota vie OAGLRCALCTIP ca vat No benchmarks have been established yet but improvements in handling of larger simulations and simulation speed may be possible due to the availability of better hardware resources (larger address space, faster bus architecture, etc.) on 64-bit machines. Gains will be simulation and hardware specific but encouraging speed performance improvements were seen during the DYNSIM 5.0 beta program. Note: The regular 32-bit DYNSIM 5.0 application is a pre-requisite for installing 64-bit DYNSIM engines Page 17 of 27 Avantis. Eurotherm. Foxboro. IMServ. InFusion. SimSci-Esscor. Skelta. Triconex. To configure a Malfunction UOM, the Plant UOM should be set to "default". If Plant UOM is selected, then the transmitter failure mode values i.e., Mature value, High limit, and Low limit are displayed in Plant UOM., OPC Server Engine (OPC-DA) A new OPC Server Engine (OPC-DA) is now available. This provides a mechanism for OPC-DA clients to communicate with DYNSIM. OPC UA Server (introduced in DYNSIM 4.5.5) The OPC UA Simulation Server provides a common data access mechanism to our flagship products (PRO/II, ROMeo and DYNSIM) through an industry standard communication protocol (OPC UA). In addition to providing the ability to read and write parameter data, it also provides the ability to invoke methods such as Open Simulation, Run Simulation, Freeze Simulation, Close Simulation, Load IC/Backtrack, Delete IC/Backtrack, Save IC and Save Simulation. New Licensing Check (introduced in DYNSIM 4.5.5) In DYNSIM 4.5.5, a new licensing mechanism has been implemented. The SimExecutive will launch only if a valid Dynamic Simulation Suite license (any one of DYNSIM, DYNSIM-P, DYNSIM Runtime, DYNSIM-P Runtime, CheckOut, OTS Engines, FSIM PLUS, TRISIM PLUS, FSIM Plus Lite, FSIMPlus Standard, FSIM Plus Extra, ETS) is found. The SimExecutive checks for a valid license and returns it after finding one. A separate SimExecutive license is not needed. If the SimExecutive finds a valid license, the message window will display a message “SimExecutive has obtained a runtime license”. If the SimExecutive does not find an appropriate license, it will not launch and an appropriate message “License check failed for SimExecutive” will be displayed, The users should not see any other difference in the existing licensing behavior. Best Practices Documentation New documents to support modeling best practices have been created and are now available in the product (in SIMSCI\DSS50\Documents\DYNSIM Best Practices). The models covered in this release are Compressor, Distillation Column, Furnace, Header, Heat Exchanger, Drum, Separator, Multi Exchanger, Pump, Turbine and Shaft Page 18 of 27 Eurotherm. Foxboro.
