Cooperative learning lesson plan

I. Describe the Class

This is a High school English class consisting of 30 juniors. It is an Honors


class.

II. Objective(s)

The objective of the class is to have the students, once having read the short
story The Yellow Wallpaper, be able to analyze in group how they think the
woman went mad and what the husband contributed to that.

III. Procedures

• Upon entering class, the students will sit down in their assigned seats
(there is a chart that you will use to check this and call out
attendance)
• Once roll is taken have students get a copy of the text book that is
kept in the grey cabinets next to my desk and they will return to their
seat.
• They will be allowed 25 mins to complete the reading (please explain
to them to take notes on a separate piece of paper as to why they think
the woman went mad and the husband’s role in that) while they are
reading.
• After the reading is complete the students will get into groups of 5 and
share their thoughts with eachother.
• As a group they need to come up with one general thought about why
the woman went mad and what the husband’s role was.
• They will decide as a group what idea they want to use and use this to
present their findings. (they will be allowed 10 mins to compete this)
• Please have them write their ideas down on a piece of paper and turn
this into you including the names of the team members.
• We will visit these ideas next class.

• Textbook
• Paper/pen
V. Grouping Structures

• Students will be grouped in 5’s. Please have the first student on the left side
of the classroom start with “one” and count back through the rows this way
to pick the groups.

VI. Modifications

• No modifications should need to be made other than group sizing if there is


an absence.

VII. Assessment

• Please have each group share their findings with the class. We will use these
ideas as a part of the next class lesson, so it is important that all groups turn
in ideas. If they are the same that is ok.
