Representative Hope’
It has come to my attention that you are attempting to adopt an office policy of prohibiting citizens who
lawfully exercise their constitutional right to carry a firearm from entering your public office. Such @
discriminatory policy is not only unauthorized but potentially unlawful, and you are hereby directed to
immediately refrain from its adoption or implementation
‘f course, your safety and that of your ottice’s employees remains of paramount importance to the
House, and | assure you that any specific threat to your safety will be taken seriously and addressed
swiftly by our team of sergeants.
Sincerely,

Speaker of the House Lee ChatfieldNOTICE:
For the safety and comfort of my staff and myself, only
members of law enforcement may bring firearms into
this office.
lam always happy to talk with residents of the 67th
house district. However, the presence of a firearm is
never conducive to an open, meaningful discussion. In
fact, firearms are frequently used to control or
suppress conversation. (For example: coercive
interrogations, forced hostage statements, etc.)
You are very welcome to come back to talk with my
staff or me without your firearms. Or you can call or
email me at your convenience from the privacy and
comfort of your own home.
Thank you,
Lap
