Why Finance?

Sir, last year I got the chance to read the book, ‘I do what I do’ by Raghuram Rajan. The
book is a collection of his speeches and lectures. He talks about the decisions he made in his
tenure as the RBI governor and simultaneously explains many financial terms in a lucid
manner like inflation, monetary policies, problem of NPAs, financial inclusion, Economic
Crisis of 2008 and the problems of PSBs (I can explain these terms also). I could make sense
of most of the things he explained and could relate to how these financial terms affect our
daily lives. Also out of interest, I would search and read about things I couldn’t interpret that
well. In a nutshell the book gave a glimpse of the immense world of finance which I am
enthusiastic to learn about in a systematic manner. This interest aroused by the book along
with a small exposure to handling financial transactions at college level Major Project in
which we made a solar powered battery charger and got the funding reimbursed by the
college, has made me take the decision to choose finance as the specialization.
