I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the Grade 10 students are expected to understand what an allusion
is, to express orally the importance of being a well-read person and having a prior knowledge of
what is being alluded to by the writer and to write analysis of the lines based on the allusion of
the poem.
II. Content
Topic: Allusion
Materials: Grade 10 Learning Module, visual aids, worksheets, mobile phone and
speaker
III. Procedures
A. Motivation
Before reading the literary selection, the students will be instructed to answer the
worksheets to be distributed by the teacher and check their worksheets afterwards. This activity
is good for ten minutes. The teacher then will call on some students to answer some items in
the worksheet. When the activity is done, students will pass the worksheets to the front an it
will serve as their attendance for the day.

B. Presentation
Students will be asked by the following questions:
1. What is figurative speech?
2. What are the types of figurative speech?
The teacher will call on some students to share his/her ideas or views about figure of
speech and will be asked the types of speech he/she knows. Then a visual aid will be shown to
the class about allusion and examples of it.
Types of Allusion
1.Bibilical - referring to a bible or a religious work
2.Classical – referring to classical literature
3.Literary – referring to another literary work
4.Historical – referring to an event in history
Examples of Allusion:
"I was surprised his nose was not growing like Pinocchio's!”
He acts like he is the biggest Romeo around town, and cares less what anyone says.
She fell for him, knowing well that he is nothing less than a Casanova.
After a short discussion on allusion, the teacher will let the students listen to the literary
selection from the book entitled, “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe, through a mobile phone. The
students will read the poem silently as the poem is playing.
C. Application
After listening to the poem, the students will be instructed to look for a partner for a pair
task. They are going to answer the activity on page 115 of their book with a 15-minute
allotted time. And they will present their task to the rest of the class.

D. Generalization
The students will be engaged in wrapping up the lesson. Teacher will ask the following
questions:
1. What is allusion?
IV. Evaluation
A short assessment of the lesson will be given to the students. The teacher will distribute
another set of activity sheets to be answered by the students. They should finish it within ten
minutes.
