4 Assembly and testing

An assembly line is a maufacturing process (often called a progressive assembly)

in which parts (usually interchangable) are added as the semi-finished assembly
moves from workstation to workstation where the parts are added in sequence until
the final assembly is produced.

 Assembly section

In case of my project of reduction gearbox all the elements like gears, housing, baseframe
etc are collected and assembled to finish the process. There are total three assembly
teams to whom different assemblies are given to complete.

Testing unit

There is a special testing area where the final assembly is tested for hours for testing. In
the process the assembly is moved through prime mover for hours to check the endurance
of the gear assembly.

In testing mainly the assembly is tested for three things :-

- Temperature of bearing through radiographic temperature indiator.

- vibrations generating
- sound generation
- speed of the output shaft
