Evaluation – 48 Hour sprint

To our favourite place

As this Project/challenge is our first project since joining back to college and that project
being a 48-hour project there was too much research that was done, we were given this
project on Monday 16th September which mean we didn’t have long at all to plan, film or
edit. I personally did some research of things that change throughout life and that would
be easy to film because we had a short time making the whole film. I looked at films that
had a change aspect in them either throughout or just having it in part for the film, I
remembered that twilight had a film scene in it where Bella was sat at her window while
the camera paned around in circles and each time it panned to the window that season
in the back ground changed to either Winter or Autumn, which I personally like that idea
of the weather changing as time went on. This idea was very useful in our final idea
because it was easier to film because the next couple of days were going to be really
good weather for us to film in. Research location was very short because of how short
time we had but lucky Charlie our camera operator was suggesting we travel to a place
called the Walled Garden in Wrington which I had been to before and it is beautiful and
perfect for film on a sunny day which it was. I think even though our research was short
and basically straight to the point I think it was beneficial to our group because we might
of not researched about a story at that time we did research a location and weather on
the day filming so we knew if the weather would be good and the location would be
open.

Overall good things that were said were pretty much very positive and were discussed
were the cinematography that was produced was very good and sable throughout the
short film that mixed with great scenery made the shots more effortless. Throughout the
colour gradient is bright and inviting with some golden tones through which made I think
the film a lot welcoming and enjoyable to watch. People also said where was the location
we used because it was so pretty and the class really wanted to go to the Walled
Garden.

From the positive to what need to be improved, What was said was that we could of
used different locations not just stayed in one location throughout the film not just staying
in the same place because it would give some more interest in the film which I do agree
with because we did just stay in the same place all the time throughout the film which did
make it feel same old type of feel which can get very boring. Overall the storyline
definitely needed to be improved and developed more before we filmed it because it was
very unclear throughout what the storyline was which I think next time will need to plan
so much more to make the film more inviting and interesting. We also got some
feedback that matches sort of the positive but in a negative way because there were a
few people that didn’t like colour of the footage and thought it was a bit over the top
throughout the film and just overall thought it needed improving which it’s a 50/50
positive and negative.

Overall the things I would definitely do differently and need to improve on next time, is
mainly to improve our story more because the class didn’t really get the “change” in our
film because it wasn’t clear enough for people to understand which I understand
because watching it I knew that it could be a probably for people getting the “change”
and understanding it. I think if we could go back we would honestly change things
people know straight away a rough idea of what might happen so if we had more time it
would be more organised and planned more for changes which we did have last minute
which did throw of the storyline quite a bit which is why overall people didn’t really
understand it because of that, We originally had planned to have Taryn’s boyfriend being
in it but he’s backed out at the last minute and it kind of ruined the whole idea and
storyline that we had previously created which was very frustrating because of how little
time we had to do this project/challenge looking back we possibly need to plan B
alongside the first plan just in case especially if we have a tight time plan to start with.
I personally enjoyed this experience as we as a class have never done a 48 hour sprint
before and I enjoyed planning and filming straight away because it was less stressful
personally because there is nothing really to work up to because it more like a quick
stress but then it over before it started which means the projects would finish quicker.
Overall as a team we listened to each other and respected our ideas and we got a say in
the idea which really help the pre – production stage and we all individually did our own
research on the idea which help because we had lots to bring to the table idea wise.
Filming went very quick but very enjoyable and we had a really weather throughout
filming which made the time go much quicker. Helped with light through camera. Even
though the end result didn’t go maybe the way we wanted it gave us a really good idea if
we were to do this for real which I’m confident that I could do it again with group or on
my own.
