Engine oil lubricates the engine's moving internal

parts to protect them against wear and reduce
friction. It also creates a protective seal between the
moving and stationary parts, all the while helping to
ENGINE OIL sub Part Com EO01 Part Com EO02 Part Com EO03 Part Com EO04 Part Com EO05
cool the engine. As engine oil deteriorates with time,
it loses its ability to properly protect the engine.
Regular oil changes are recommended to ensure the
engine continues to operate properly.

The engine oil is kept clean by the oil filter which

traps deposits and contaminants that naturally occur
within the engine. As the deposits and contaminants

changed at regular intervals to ensure that it
continues to properly filter the oil that flows through
the engine.

The serpentine belt drives the water pump, the

alternator, and the power steering pump. It also
drives the air conditioning compressor on A/C
equipped vehicles. Belt replacement is necessary if

the belt becomes worn, damaged, or as the rubber
deteriorates due to age or contamination. Belt failure
can result in engine overheating, loss of power
steering, charging system failure, and a/c failure.

Spark plugs act to ignite the fuel/air mixture and

initiate combustion in the engine. Over time, the
spark plugs wear making it more difficult for them to
transmit electricity. Weak or faulty spark plugs can

cause misfires or cause the engine to run poorly.
Spark plug performance deteriorates with use and
replacement is necessary as part of regular
maintenance.

The valves act to draw air and fuel into the engine
while they act to expel exhaust gases from the
engine. The valves must open and close at specified
intervals for proper engine operation. There is
'clearance' between the end of the valve and the
rocker arms, which operates them. If the clearance is
VALVE CLEARANCE sub Part Com VC01 Part Com VC02 Part Com VC03 Part Com VC04 Part Com VC05
too big, this can result in abnormal noise, wear and
poor engine performance. Too little clearance can
result in engine driveability issues or valvetrain
damage. Periodic adjustments may be necessary
depending on engine design, maintenance
requirements, abnormal noise or driveability issues.
The air cleaner element filters and traps dust and
pollen that is drawn into the engine. As the filter
becomes dirty, it loses it's ability to properly filter
the air. This can lead to poor fuel economy or engine
AIR CLEANER ELEMENT performance. Periodic inspection and replacement of sub Part Com ACE01 Part Com ACE02 Part Com ACE03 Part Com ACE04 Part Com ACE05
the air cleaner element is recommended at specific
intervals. The air cleaner element may require
replacement more frequently if the vehicle is
regularly driven in dusty conditions.

Engine coolant acts to regulate the heat that is

naturally generated by the engine to keep the engine
running at an optimum temperature. It also contains
anti-freeze to permit operation in very cold
temperatures, while at the same time protecting the
ENGINE COOLANT sub Part Com EC01 Part Com EC02 Part Com EC03 Part Com EC04 Part Com EC05
cooling system components with its anti-corrosion
properties. As the coolant level decreases with time,
it is necessary to replace the engine coolant at the
recommended intervals. It is also recommended to
check the coolant level regularly in case of leaks.

The exhaust system acts to emit the exhaust gases

from the vehicle. It is made up of the exhaust
manifold, pipes, catalytic converter, resonator (some
models) and muffler. Exhaust leaks can be caused by
internal corrosion caused by condensation, or
EXHAUST SYSTEM sub Catalytic Converter Exhaust Pipe A Exhaust Pipe B Muffler Part Com FS05
external corrosion caused by exposure to the
elements or humidity. Leaking components can
cause abnormal noise and may pose a safety hazard.
Exhaust inspections are included as part of regular
maintenance.
The fuel system supplies fuel to the engine. The fuel
tank, lines and hoses are inspected for damage,
deterioration and leakage during scheduled

maintenance inspections. If a fuel system component
is faulty or if a safety hazard exists, it must be
repaired immediately.
Automatic Transmission Fluid transmits engine
power to the transmission and acts to cool and
lubricate internal transmission components. Over
time, the quality of the fluid diminishes and
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION replacement is necessary at the recommended sub Part Com TF01 Part Com TF02 Part Com TF03 Part Com TF04 Part Com TF05
intervals. An inspection of the transmission, fluid
hoses, pipes and cooler (if equipped) should be
performed for leaks during recommended
maintenance.

Driveshaft boots protect the joints on the drive axles

and propeller shafts. They also store grease required

for lubrication of the joint. Replacement is necessary
if the driveshaft boots are damaged.
Power steering reduces the effort required by the
driver to steer the vehicle. If the power steering
system is faulty, increased effort may be required.
STEERING sub Steering gear box Tie rod ends Part Com S03 Part Com S04 Part Com S05
Power steering components are inspected during
scheduled maintenance intervals to ensure they are
free of leaks or damage.

The suspension connects the vehicle to its wheels. It

acts to isolate the body from the road, at the same
time it helps to control speed, direction and stability.
SUSPENSION Worn or damaged components can cause premature sub Coil spring Damper Part Com SUS03 Part Com SUS04 Part Com SUS05
tire wear, and may also affect handling and vehicle
stability. Suspension components are inspected
during recommended maintenance.

When you step on the brake pedal, the brake pad is

pressed against the brake rotor forcing the vehicle to
slow/stop. Constant friction causes the brake
material to wear. As the thickness of the pads/rotors
deteriorates, they lose their ability to effectively
BRAKES sub Caliper Pads Disc Part Com B04 Part Com B05
slow/stop the vehicle. Regular servicing is
recommended to ensure the braking system remains
effective. Brakes wear according to individual
driving habits and patterns and replacement is
necessary with time.

When the brake pedal is pressed, the brake fluid

transfers mechanical force hydraulically to the
braking mechanism to slow or stop the vehicle.
Brake fluid tends to absorb moisture from the air and
BRAKE FLUID sub Brake Line Master Cylinder Brake Hoses Brake Hoses Part Com BF05
as a result the performance of the fluid deteriorates
over time. Accordingly, the brake fluid should be
replaced at specified intervals. The system should
also be inspected for leaks or damage.

The parking brake acts to prevent the rear wheels

from turning when parked. Over time, normal

stretching of the parking brake may occur and
periodic adjustments may be required.

If the a/c is not working properly, a system test

should be performed. This includes verifying
operating pressures, inlet and outlet air temperatures

and all electrical components. Clogged dust/pollen
filters can also affect a/c operation and their
replacement is recommended at specified intervals.

Environmental conditions damage wiper blades

rendering them ineffective. Periodic replacement of

the rubber is necessary to ensure they continue to
operate properly.
The battery stores and supplies power to the
electrical components and the engine. Battery
efficiency gradually deteriorates with use and
BATTERY sub Part Com BY01 Part Com BY02 Part Com BY03 Part Com BY04 Part Com BY05
replacement eventually becomes necessary. A vehicle
may not start if it is equipped with a weak or
drained battery.

Proper wheel alignment helps with fuel efficiency,

minimizes tire wear, and enhances handling,
WHEEL ALIGNMENT cornering and vehicle stability. Wheel alignments sub Part Com WA01 Part Com WA02 Part Com WA03 Part Com WA04 Part Com WA05
should be checked if there is abnormal tire wear, and
after most suspension repairs.

Tires provide traction between the vehicle and the

road to help with braking, turning and accelerating.
Tires must be of the proper size, type, load rating
and speed rating. The driver should visually check
the tires everyday and should regularly check tire

inflation. To optimize tire life, tire rotations are
recommended as part of regular maintenance. The
wheel alignment should be checked if there are signs
of abnormal wear, and wheel balance should be
checked if there is abnormal vibration.
