Event Title: PITCON: Pangasinan IT Conference 2017: A 3-Day Masterclass

Event Logo:

Theme: Building a Dynamic Community towards an Empowered Digital Era

I. Introduction

The Information Technology – Business Process Outsourcing (IT-BPO) Industry is one

of the most dynamic emerging sectors of the Philippines. It has expanded widely and it

exhibits great dynamism, but people have the notion that the BPO industry is solely

comprised of call centers, when it is actually more diverse with back-offices, knowledge

process outsourcing, software design and engineering, animation, game development,

as well as transcription.

2
II. Rationale / Statement of Purpose

One of the biggest challenges of our country today is the jobs-skills mismatch that

results in unemployment and one of the major reasons is the insufficient industry

standard skills of the fresh graduates when they enter the industry.

A Recent data from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) showed that out

of the 4,239,392 domestic and international job vacancies offered in thousands of job

fairs nationwide in the past two years, only 391,088 among 1,286,073 applicants were

hired on the spot and a majority of these vacancies are from the IT-BPO industry.

The PITCON 2017 project is a combined seminar and workshop that will cover some

industry standard skills needed to prepare the students in entering the IT-BPO industry.

I.T. students should understand the importance of developing such skills to prevent job-

skills mismatch and unemployment.

The skills obtained in this event will play a key-role not only in developing our country's

IT-BPO infrastructure but also to the career path of the students.

It is with these thoughts that this event is conceptualized.

3
III. Objectives

The seminar-workshop aims to:

1. Develop an appreciation of the importance of having the specific skills before

entering the IT-BPO industry.

2. Educate student participants on the fundamental skills required by the IT-BPO

industry.

3. Orient student participants on the innovations and best practices in learning

these fundamental skills;

4. Equip them with interactive and enjoyable strategies and activities to help

5. understand how these fundamental skills play a key role in the development of

the IT-BPO industry.

VIII. Why Attend the Event? (Why Is It Important?)

a. Connect:

Participating in PITCON will help the advocate organizations enter and connect with the

academe in Pangasinan since ITMG is affiliated with different organizations like

HackTheNorth, PHP User’s Group, Wordpress User’s Group, and much more!

b. Cost and Advocacy:

Masterclass or whole day I.T. workshops cost a lot of money - thousands of pesos.

Aside from that, add the miscellaneous expenses like food, accommodation, and

transportation since most of these events are always held in the Metro. With ITMG’s

advocacy, PITCON’s ticket prices are minimized without sacrificing the fun and learning

experience for each participant.

c. Community:

It is proven that the areas with active I.T. community are also the same areas with better

I.T. skills and performance. That is because of the initiatives like Code Camps,

Hackathons, etc. that are very easy to reach. Supporting PITCON is the same as

supporting ITMG to grow and provide more and better events for the benefit of not only

the students but also to the local community as well.

14
d. Get the Skills:

In-line to the core values of ITMG, PITCON is a series of topics that are very much

timely to help the students enter the I.T. industry based on what is standard and needed.

Effectivity is our goal that is why instead of the traditional conference setup, PITCON

presents a whole day workshop with student output and interaction. That will ensure us

that after each event day, students have basic knowledge on some of the skills needed

to enter the I.T. industry.

15
PITCON is not just an event. It is an advocacy.

An initiative, first of its kind in Pangasinan to unite all

Information Technology Colleges and Universities,

Advocate Organizations, Private Sector, and the Government

Into helping not only the I.T. Students to enter the industry,

But also Pangasinan and the country.

Let us support PITCON and make I.T. happen!
