SERMON TITLE: GO AND PREACH THE GOSPEL

INTRODUCTION: Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV) says,
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and
of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you
always, to the very end of the age."

This verse is popular and almost memorized by every believers even by the children. But
as followers of Christ, do we really put ourselves into action fulfilling the Great Commission?
Does every one of us bold enough to preach the gospel? Today, we are going to study about
the Gospel. What is all about, what are we commanded to do so that mankind will hear the
Gospel, and our attitudes towards the Gospel.
TRANSITION: Let us take a step first studying the definition of the Gospel.
I. THE GOSPEL
A. Definition of the word GOSPEL
Greek word-euaggelion (yoo-ang-ghel'-ee-on); from the same as a good message
KJV - gospel.
B. What is the Gospel all about?
Mark 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God
1. The good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
(Cross ref.) 2Cor. 10:14 For we are not overextending ourselves, as though we did not
reach you. For we were the first to come all the way to you with the gospel of Christ.
2Tim. 2:8 Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in
my gospel,
 The message is all about Christ. It is not our testimonies nor words of
human wisdom. 1Cor. 1:17 For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach
the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be
emptied of its power.
Illustration: A preacher who preaches by telling personal testimonies,
telling jokes, or quoting principles of other people or teachings not from
the Bible.
Application: When we talk to unbelievers, we talk about Jesus, what he
did on the cross and the gift of eternal life, we talk about the goodness
and the love of God by reading the Scriptures to them.
When our friend is facing challenges, we share the word of
God about passing through the storms in life.
When there is something to rejoice, we tell them that God is
the blessor and we are to bring praises and thanksgiving to Him.
Whatever the situation is, we always talk about Jesus and the Bible.
2. It is the power of God for the salvation to anyone who believes
Rom. 1:16NIV For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to
everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

 The Bible says that those who believes in the Son of God will be
saved.
Mark 16:16 ESV Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does
not believe will be condemned .
John 3:16 ESV “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever
believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:3 ESV Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey
the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
 Whoever hear and believes in his word will be saved.
John 5:24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who
sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from
death to life.
Application: when there are opportunities to share the Gospel, take
advantage of it. When you are waiting for the bus to arrive, talk to a
person about the message of salvation. When there is a family
gathering, preach about Christ, about forgiveness, about hope etc.
3. It is the word of truth
Eph. 1:13 NIV In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation,
and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
Col. 1:5 NIV because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the
word of the truth, the gospel

 The word of truth set a person free.

John 8:32 ESV and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Application: Do not be afraid to tell to a person his mistakes or if he is
sinning. The word of God is for correction, reproof, for teaching and
training in righteousness.
2Tim. 3:16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for
reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
TRANSITION: After learning that Gospel is the good news about Christ and that it sets a
person free, let us know how the unbelievers will know about Jesus and hear the word.
II. PREACH THE WORD
A. Jesus preached the Word
Matt. 4:23 And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming
the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people .
Matt. 9:35 And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues
and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.
Mark 1:14 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God,
Luke 20:1 One day, as Jesus was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel,
the chief priests and the scribes with the elders came up
 Jesus himself preached the Gospel to the people. He proclaimed the
word of God with authority. He was not afraid to preach the gospel
about the kingdom of God.

 Miracles happened after Jesus proclaimed the Gospel.
Matt. 4:23 And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and
proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every
affliction among the people.
Matt. 9:35 And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their
synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease
and every affliction.
o Many were healed from every diseases.
o Many were healed from afflictions.

B. Jesus commanded the disciples to preach the Word

Mark 16:15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole
creation.
1. Preach the Gospel to:
a. To the whole world/ all nations
Matt. 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout
the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
Matt. 26:13 Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the
whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.” (Mk.
14:9)
Mark 13:10 And the gospel must first be proclaimed to all nations.
b. To the Gentiles
Acts 15:7 And after there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said
to them, “Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice
among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the
gospel and believe.
c. To the whole creation
Mark 16:15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the
gospel to the whole creation.
d. To where Christ is not known
Rom. 15:20 and thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel,
not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone
else’s foundation
2. Jesus commanded the disciples to GO
GO - [Mounce Greek Dictionary] poreuō - to go, pass from one
place to another; to go away, depart, go; travel; walk.
o Preaching cannot be done unless go out and do it. Yes we can
preach the gospel inside the church but only to those who are
already inside the church. But we will only reach those people
who are already willing to come to us. What about those who
would never come to us?
o Jesus said we must “GO!” (Matthew 28:19-20) This means we
have to take a risk and approach people we don’t know, get to
know them, and somehow share with them the Gospel of our
Lord Jesus Christ.

Illustration: Parents often want to teach their kids to do

something as they grow. Training the kids to follow instruction
is giving them errands. For example : asking them to buy
something from the store, washing the car, washing the
dishes, etc. as the mom or dad gave instructions, the kids will
say “opo” but the kid will not move from his place. In order to
carry on the command to go to a place, the person needs to
take a step and go away from his place.
Application: if we want our relatives, friends, neighborhood
and the whole nation to get save, we need to go to their
places to share the gospel. We need to GO.
If we want to have a better world to live in, we
have to tell them about Jesus.
Rom. 10:14 ESV How then will they call on him in whom they have not
believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never
heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?
 Let God use as in transforming the lives of people. Let it be a burden
to us to save those who are perishing. It is not all about us, it is all
about Jesus. do not be afraid of rejection, don’t be scared for the Holy
Spirit will help us. Just be a willing vessel of the good news.
John 14:25-26 ESV “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will
teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and
you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end
of the earth.”
TRANSITION: Now, let us talk about our attitude towards the Gospel.

III. OUR ATTITUDES TOWARDS PREACHING THE GOSPEL

A. We are not to be ashamed of the gospel
Rom. 1:16 NIV For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation
to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

2Tim. 1:8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his
prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God ,
 We are not to be ashamed of the Gospel, through it many people’s
lives will be changed.
B. Make it to be our ambition to preach the Gospel
Rom. 15:20 NIV and thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has
already been named, lest I build on someone else’s foundation,

 Be bold in sharing the Gospel.

C. Do not be hypocrites but live by the truth

Gal. 2:14 NIV But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel,
I said to Cephas before them all, “If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew,
how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?”

 Do not be like Christians who attend the weekend services trying to

be holy and then when with secular world, we do conform with what
the world does.
 Live the word
D. Preach with eagerness
Rom. 1:15 So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.
 Always have the energy and enthusiasm in preaching the word.
E. Preach it free of charge
1Cor. 9:18 NIV What then is my reward? That in my preaching I ma.y present the gospel free
of charge, so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel.
2Cor. 11:7 NIV Or did I commit a sin in humbling myself so that you might be exalted,
because I preached God’s gospel to you free of charge?
 We do not ask for money or anything from preaching the word of
God. We received it freely, we give it freely to others. Surely the
reward is great for us who will herald the good news to mankind.

Mark 10:29 Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or
brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the
gospel,

Mark 10:30 who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and
brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in
the age to come eternal life.
Application: As servants of God, our goal to point the people to Jesus, who
has the power and authority to bring life, healing and freedom to anyone who
believes. It should be a lifestyle preaching the Gospel anytime, anywhere.

CONCLUSION: The perishing world needs to know that there hope, there is peace, there is
forgiveness, there is freedom in Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior by believing in Him and in
the gospel. But how could they hear it if no one will tell the message? Be part of God’s plan to
save the world and to change the lives of people. GO and preach the good news!
