1. What art form/artwork has changed something in your life?

Music. It plays a great role in making me happy in difficult times and relieves my mind. It is a key to my
soul which helps me to be physically and mentally healthy. Whenever I hear good music, it triggers positive
thoughts and good memories of past time, favorite places, persons or events. Music gives me a peaceful
mind and mental satisfaction, and it also increases my concentration level. Every time I listen or play
music, I never get fed up of any problems in life because it helps me in distressing and relaxing my mind
as well as it also motivates me to do better in life.

2. Does art always have a function? Why? Support your response. Provide your own example.

Yes, art always has a function. The function is usually based on how it has been perceived or appreciated
by the viewer. Art's primary purpose has been the expression of an idea. So in that view, art itself is not
useless because it is formed for that expression. There are some artworks that will remain as an artwork
no matter what. Mona Lisa, for example, will always be known as an artwork no matter how decoyed or
damaged it is.

In order for an object to function, it must fulfill its purpose or task of its intention. Another example is
ceramics. When it is displayed in a museum, we can assert that the action of placing it in a museum is
what makes the ceramics an art; that is why we simply treat it as an art. As a result, we no longer treat it
merely as ceramics. However, once it is removed from being a display and is began to be used, the function
of it then becomes a utilitarian object.

3. If an art ceased to have a function, will it remain an art? Why?

Yes, it will still remain as an art. The underlying purpose of an art is to communicate with what the artist
intended. Even if the viewers perceived anything that is not what the artist intended, as long as it
communicates anything to the viewer, it is considered as an art. Art's purpose is aesthetics, self-
expression, communication, exploration of meaning, concepts and ideas. An artwork will always be an art
to its creator/artist.
