Snow White entered the little house and finding it very untidy, started to clean up.
Upstairs she found seven little beds. She was very tired and stretching out on one of the beds,
was soon asleep.

When the dwarfs came home they were surprised to find Snow White and after some
argument, decided to let her stay. She promised to cook and look after them.

The queen discovered where Snow White was living and disguising herself as a witch,
took a poisoned apple and set out for the dwarfs cottage. She gave Snow White the poisoned
apple to eat and as soon as she bit the apple, she was unconscious.

Thinking she was dead, the dwarfs built a glass coffin and put her in it. For days she
lay in the forest in her glass coffin. One day, the Prince was riding through the forest looking
for Snow White and found her. He leaned over and kissed her. Snow White opened her eyes
and sat up with a smile. Everyone was happy. The Prince took Snow White to his palace
where they were married and lived happily ever after.

The book review
An interesting story to read. The story tells us about Mahsuri, a pretty maiden who is known
for her exotic beauty and virtuous upbringing. Finally, she was wooed and won over by Mat
Deris, the Penghulu’s son. Due to her popularity, Mahsuri was the subject of envy of the
Penghulu’s wife, Mahura. When Mat Deris was sent to war, Mahura began spreading rumours
about Mahsuri having a scandal with a handsome stranger named Deraman. The Penghulu
and the villagers believed Mahura’s story and tied Mahsuri to a tree. Before the Penghulu
stabbed her to death, she cursed on the people of Langkawi that the land would be deserted
for seven generations. The people were alarmed when they saw white blood gushing out from
Mahsuri’s wounds. It symbolized innocence and purity. Soon after, the Siamese attacked and
destroyed Langkawi Island.
