ABO Blood Group System

Introduction:

Blood typing is a method to determine the type of blood a person has. The type of blood a person
has is determined by the presence of antigens. All human has ABO blood type. There are four types
of blood group: A, B, AB, O. There are two antigens and two antibodies present in the blood which
are responsible for the ABO types.

People with type A blood will have the A antigen on the surface of their red
blood cells. As a result, anti-A antibodies will not be produced by them
because they would cause the destruction of their own blood.
People with type B blood will have the B antigen on the surface of their red
blood cells. As a result, anti-B antibodies will not be produced by them
because they would cause the destruction of their own blood.
People with AB will have both A and B antigen on the surface of their red
blood cells. As a result, anti-A and anti-B antibodies will not be produced by
them because they would cause the destruction of their own blood.
People with type O blood will not have both A and B antigen on the surface
of their red blood cells.
