BACKGROUND:

WHY DO WE NEED RULES ANYWAY?

Class discussion about the importance of rules:
Why do we have them?
Where do we need rules?
Does everyone have to follow rules?
Is there anyone who does not have to follow rules?
WHAT ABOUT THE ART ROOM?
Brainstorm with your group:

• Why are rules important in our classroom?

• What would happen if we had no rules?

• What kind of rules should be necessary?

• Should there be rules for teachers?

– Why or why not?
RULES FOR STUDENTS
• List 5-10 rules that you and your group feel are
important to the success of our art class.
– Be sure to consider all aspects of the classroom
environment including:
• safety
• interaction with others
• classwork
RULES FOR TEACHERS

• List a minimum of 3 rules that you and your group feel

are important for your teacher to follow to ensure a
successful art class.
RULES FOR STUDENTS & TEACHERS

• Look back at both lists of rules:

– are there any rules that appear on both lists?

• What rules, if any, should students and teachers follow?

RULES FOR STUDENTS & TEACHERS
• Review both lists and create a new list of rules.

• Let this list serve as a guide for everyone – both students

and teachers

• Draw/write your new list in on cardstock or poster

board.

• Each group will present their rules to the class.
