This elactramechanical actuator is typically used as an engine fuel contio! positioning device. An internal spring provides fal sate operation by forcing the actuator to the ‘uol shut off positon won the actuetor is de-energzed, This {design combines fast operation, mull vollage usage, wider rota- lion angjes. and proven reliably, Tho actuater can operat dieoty trom 12, 24, or 32 volt battary supplies, The speed of operation of the actuator is typically faster then competitive unite, thus it provides more stable and repid ‘esponse to vensiant conditions Applications include most block pumps, witn or whout mechani= cal governors, distrioutor type pumps, and medium sized carbu- feted engines. The 25 degrees of rotation expands the application ‘0 8 witer variety af engines DESCRIPTION The actuator is an eloctromagnetic serve dovice which can be integrated into a closed loop contro! system. An engine control systam can be described as follows. An electrical signal = generated by a magnatic speed sensor which is proportional to fengine speed. Ths signalis sant into the etectronic speed control unit which compares i lo the preset engine spead setting. I ihe magnetic speed sensor signal and the preset engine speed ottng are nol equal, a change in current Irom the speed control ‘ntto the actuater wall change the magnetc force inthe actuator. The rotation of the actwator shaft wil then adjust the tual tothe, engine and cause the engine spead fo be equal lo the preset ‘ergine speed sotting. Shaf rotation is proportional tothe arrount ‘of actuator current and counterbalanced by the internal spring, Sine the design has ro sliding parts and is totally sealed, ‘outstanding rofability results. A single compression spring is sed to imorove retablity. The preferred rrounting is with the electrical connector at tho top. Applications with the actuator upside down, on its back, or sideways should be ‘avoided, Linkage arrangement of ary actuator systom is alvaysimportent, High quality roc end hearings should be sac. Rod end bearings ‘hathave high friction can ceuse instability and require servicing. Lovers and linkega shoud be sturcy yet low in mess for the fastest speed cf response coneitions. ‘Arrangerentot the linkage for actuation of he engine fuel control is an important application consideration. Forproporional actuators to operate with ron-iinear systems itis important to cbiain a nondinear relationship behwean actuator stroke and fuel delivery, Cerbureted, PT Purps (CUMMINS), oF thor nor-linear fuel systems require @ non-linear tual linkage Configuration as lustrated ln Diagram 4, Anon-inearfuel system results when more engine power is developed fo" a given stroke ‘at postions of low fuel settings than at high fuel settings.
